After those recipies above I hate to say!
I had Mother make me angel food cakes until she started making a great, moist carrot cake. Then it was my favorite (and still is, if made moist).

Yes, I'm afraid so.

I understand not overloading a child of one, two or three with sugary sweets, but all little ones enjoy their first, second, etc. b.day cakes. I know some do cry......

I just thought it was all very strange; I wondered what the purpose of it was. A birthday party? What's a birthday? At two years old, time doesn't exist. So what's the purpose of it? (I better not say what I really think about the purpose of it.)

You remember your second birthday????? Perhaps your mom retold the story to you.

No, she never did tell that story and I don't think I ever told her that I remembered it. I wish I had told her.

Most childrens' memories begin around age 4...???
Perhaps age 3 at the earliest.

Wait 'til you hear this: My first memory goes back to before I was one year old. And my mother wouldn't have told me this because it wouldn't have been anything special to her. But it was special to me and that's why I remembered it. It goes like this:

I remember the layout of the kitchen and it was the kitchen of a house I only lived in up to the age of one. That's why I know about how old I was. My mother had put me in a high-chair. Quite possibly it was going to be the first time she would feed me baby food from a jar, but I can't be sure about that.
Well, I remember feeling very hungry and I couldn't wait. So I started making a comotion. She was about to open one of the kitchen cabnets to get the baby food jars. And when I made the comotion, she turned around and scolded me. She said, "just be patient, I'm going as fast as I can." (It didn't seem that way to me.)

So, finally, it was time to eat. There were two jars. She opened one and with a little baby-spoon she put some food in my mouth. It surprised me because it tasted bitter. I pushed it out of my mouth and it ran down my chin. She expressed her displeasure and told me that I had to eat it. (That's when she got an idea.) She said, "this other jar is apple sauce and tastes good. But you have to eat the vegetables first in order to get the apple sauce." Believe it or not, I understood every word she said and I proceeded to eat the vegetables. End of story.

That was my first lesson in nutrition: Vegetables come first because they are the most important part of the meal. You can't just eat what you like the most. But I do like vegetables now, even the "bitter" ones.
