Traded in my beloved Cadillac DTS. I don't enjoy the same ride, but going from 19 mpg to 38 mpg makes me very happy. I was amazed at how well equipped the Elantra was, and I got extras such as heated seats, remote start, XM and Bluetooth, alloy wheels, all for under 20K. Thought I would have to sell the Caddy outright, but they offered me a fair trade, so we worked a deal - first time I have traded with a dealer in more than 30 years. Anyone else have an Elantra, and what has been your experience?

What a beautiful looking vehicle. I don't have the Elantra, but I did just purchase a 2013 Sonata, loaded as yours with sun roof and full leather seats. I absolutely adore the car. I've been getting about 28 city and 33 highway. It drives very nice, very happy with it so far.
I took it in to have the windows tinted and the guy in the shop told me that I mind as well seal the hood shut because I'll never need a mechanic! His words to the heavens! I was undecided between the Kia Optima and the Sonada. I'm delighted I chose the Sonata. Good luck with yours.

Don't own one but thinking about buying one as our run-about and mostly the wife's vehicle. She hates to give up her VW convertible but it is showing some age----not her the car! We have looked at the Elantra and the Honda Civic. We are on our third Honda odyssey and can't believe the maint. Free and good mileage of the Honda Van for such a big vehicle. Neither the Elantra or Civic come in a convertible unfortunately. Good luck with your new Elantra. Oh, we did look at the Ford C-Max but it is too new to know about it's maintenance and resale value.

I have owned one since 2008. I had previously had a honda civic that I loved, but the Elantra had so many of extras included that were not in the Honda. I think it was at least $5000 less at the time. I have not regretted the decision at all. It's been a very good car and I hope to have it for many, many years to come.

I bought an Elantra in 2001 and handed it down to son then daughter. It lasted a long time. My daughter traded it in back in 2010 with well over 100,000 miles. I loved that car. I bought a Sonata in 2006 and left it with son in Michigan when we moved here. We have one car and one golf cart down here so we didn't need both vehicles. We drive my husbands 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. I like the Malibu but I miss my Sonata.

I love my 2012 Elantra. I had a Dodge Charger Hemi when I moved to TV's but due to my business of constant stop and go visitations, it just killed me on gas. I do like a bigger car and hated to get rid of the Charger but for around TV's the Elantra is perfect. Mine is totally loaded and believe me, I thought it was funny to have heated seats in Florida but have to say, this past winter I was in love with them in the mornings. We also just bought a 2013 Kia Optima Turbo loaded which I really like and is a bit bigger than the Elantra.
Good luck with yours and safe driving. |

I've been comparing the Honda Civic and the Hyundai Elantra and, to me at least, they appear to have a lot in common. I'm happy to see so many positive comments about the Elantra as I've been leaning slightly in that direction. Looks like a good choice.

Your Elentra sounds beautiful! I have owned a Sonata and two Sante Fe's. I love my Hyundai! Drove the heck out of the first two putting well over 100 miles a day back and forth to work. Now that I am retired, my current 2012 is loaded with all the bells and whistles and has a beautiful leather interior with heated seats and most days sits in the driveway while i work on getting our house ready to sell so I can join all of you in TV! Enjoy the great gas mileage!

when I bought my Elantra is had beat out the Civic that year as best in class by Consumer Reports, another factor in my decision. My model had bigger tires so it really feels more like a mid-size

Hyundai is one of the most underrated brands that you can buy. They build a real good car and have the best maintenance program - all at a competitive price. I am on my third Genesis and love the car.

We have a 2012 Genisis and it's a great car! When Mike wanted to go take a look at Hyundais, I was hesitant....we've always had Toyotas, Lexus, every once in a while, a Honda. Well, the minute I saw the car, took it for a test drive, we knew our 8 year old Toyota was on to another owner...
![]() On this trip we're on, we are getting about 35mpg, not too bad for a large car. The car is comfortable to ride in, to drive. The sales experience at Huyndai was the best car buying experience. The trade in they offered on our Highlander was as we had hoped and before too long, we were headed home with our new automobile. If you go to a Huyndai dealership "to look around," chances are you'll arrive home in new a new "ride." Sort of like looking around TV.....bring a checkbook... ![]()

While Hyundai calls the Elantra a compact, the EPA rates it as a mid-size because of the interior room and the trunk room. Consumer Reports, which I greatly respect, rated the Elantra second in its class to the Suburu Impreza 82 points to 80, but I was not personally attracted to the Suburu.
