Default Digital Home Advantage ad on page A10 of the July 7, 2008 Villages Daily Sun

Did anyone else read the page in the front section (A) of the Villages Daily Sun? This was a full page ad (page A10, July 7, 2008 Villages Daily Sun) by Digital Home Advantage that made it sound like all Central FL cable customers had to get digital conversion boxes if they were not already using them to get a picture come when the new cable law comes into effect. It made it sound like you needed a box for every one of your household tv sets???

This may be right if you want HD tv and have HD tv sets in various rooms but what if you just have the normal tv sets without HD but do have Comcast or some other cable provider?? That is just with one cable box for one of your tvs??

TAL - I didn't read it but I see it this way:

For the (any) cable provider to get you a signal they need to acquire the signal on THEIR end and then pass it along the coax cable down to your home. Since the new signal will be digital when analog goes away the CABLE provider will need to pick up the digital signal and send it along. On your end the coax that is plugged directly into your tv will have the signal that is being sent whether it be a converted analog or direct digital. Bottom line is that your cable provider will need to make any changes not you. Some systems broadcast an 'analog' signal for channels under 100 but remember that this is the signal that is sent from Comcast etc. not over the air. They don't want to lose any customers so I imagine that they (the cable providers) will do what they need to retain the customers.

To my knowledge the only ones who will need a converter box will be those people that receive over the air analog now. The new box will convert the digital over the air signal to an input that they can use on their existing tv. If their tv can accept digital input (any tv purchased since March 2007 plus many others prior to that) then they will be OK anyway.

This is my understanding - Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I sorry to hear that your eyesight is failing GG but Thanks - As an aside:

I never realized until I got into Nursing just how technical it was. I always had respect for the care that nurses provide but I never knew that they were THAT smart. I'm sure if you know any nurses you'll realize very shortly that they are all above average intelligence. At least that's my read from today's nursing education. We started with 17 in our class two years ago and we are down to 7. 10 out of 17 could not attain a 'B' average which is what you need to graduate.

A Comcast installer last week told me that only those with "rabbit ears" have to buy a converter box!
