Default Dishwashers that came with your home

Does anyone have a GE Quietpower dishwasher? TV was putting them in homes built about 3 1/2 years ago. Ours just broke down. Thought it should have lasted longer than this. If you've replaced it, what kind of dishwasher did you buy? Are you pleased with it?

We've been looking at dishwashers all day and reading Consumer Reports. Help!

I have a GE Quietpower 3 that came with the house. So far-so good! It is very quiet compared to the DW I had in Ohio. But that one was a 18" model as ai had a gallery kitchen. Had to buy more silverware and plates when I moved down as this DW was so big! I hope mine works more than 3 1/2 years. Coming up on 3 years so we shall see!

We've owned our villa for 2 years and the dishwasher is about the only thing that has not needed service. So far, the motor on the washing machine had to be replaced, the magnatron gun had to be replaced in the microwave and the ice machine in the fridge had to be replaced, twice.

I'm not thrilled with the way the dishwasher "cleans", but it is still working. Needless to say, we did take out an extended warranty on all appliances. jackie

Hi Avista, our TV home was built in 2003 and it still has the original dishwasher, which I think is a GE Quietpower. Do you know what is wrong with the dishwasher and whether it can be repaired?

I know I shouldn't ask, but I have done this. Did you turn it off at the switch? I don't think our dishwasher has a switch in TV, but it does in Ohio, and I have done that a couple of times.

Our dishwasher beeps constantly. The only way to stop it is to pull the circuit breaker. That is the main problem. If it cleaned well, we would get it fixed. But, it has never cleaned well. My clear glasses are shot. We debated about getting it fixed, but since it never cleaned well in the first place--and now the beeping problem, we will probably get a new one. Problem is--which one.

I have a GE QuietPower 3 (now 1 1/2 years old). It leaked when it was brand new and was immediately fixed as this was a new house. It is neither quiet nor does it clean well...I can't wait 'til it dies!

Our GE dishwasher broke down last year (3 years old) We called GE and had a service tech come to the house. He unplugged the machine from the resepitcle under the sink, waited about 30 seconds and then re-plugged. It started tright up. He said by doinig this it re-set the computer chip in the machine. Working just fine ever since.

If you are looking for a new dishwasher....BOSCH is one brand that has fairly good reputation for providing a good wash and especially for being QUIET. However, they are NOT cheap!

We also had a problem with clear glasses having a scum on them. I imagine that all of the contents in the dw had this as well. I found a solution for it by using LESS dw liquid.

Also every so often, run an empty dishwasher cycle with vinegar to clean the inside and hoses.

Hope this helps.....b

We have a Bosch in our apartment in Germany. Hands down, it is the best dishwasher we have ever used. When we have to replace the DW, it will be a Bosch! Glasses are sparkling and gets everything off the pots and pans.

It also uses a special salt, which really improves the cleaning ability. Not sure what it does, but it works.

My GE dishwasher also died after 3 1/2 years! I never cared for GE appliances.
Upon shopping around for a replacement, I made an interesting discovery: beyond the price for a replacement (I chose a Whirlpool) there are huge differences in the charge for delivery, installation and removal of the old machine. It ranged from $149 ($139 for delivery & installation, plus $10 for removal) at Sears to $50 at Appliance Direct! The decision was a no-brainer.
Buyer beware!

Not in the Villages but considering.... I totally agree with 784 Caroline, Bosch is the way to go. Have mine since 2005 and no complaints. Have to listen hard to hear it running.

We were looking seriously at the Bosch, but it didn't come in the Bisque we needed. Our entire kitchen is Bisque. So went with the Whirlpool Model that Consumer Reports recommended. I really DID like the Bosch.

Several years ago, my daughter and her husband upgraded their kitchen. The absolutely had to have a Bosch.

Aside from a disaster with the contractor measuring things badly, causing a complete re-do of the dishwasher site, and an extra 2-3 weeks, they now swear by the Bosch.

My 5-plus year old GE appliances - that's all I asked for when I chose - are still working fine. I have noticed some possible corrosion in the dw, but no leaks yet.

Of course, I use my dw barely once a week, so it certainly doesn't get any where near the use it might in a two-person household!
