I for one don’t want to be one of those statistics or any of my family members for the heard immunity.

In September 1918, Philadelphia prematurely threw a parade to celebrate the end of Spanish flu. 200,000 people attended. Within 72 hours 31 hospitals in and around Phila. were full to overflowing with Spanish flu patients. When that wave ended, 4500 people had died. Brings a quote to mind: Those who cannot learn from the past are condemned to repeat it.

What freedoms have we lost?! The editorials in that paper are full of venom.

It will be a long time before we know why so many have very few if any symptoms but there is a lot of research concerning the importance of increasing our immune systems through diet and exercise. I thought these articles were interesting.

COVID-19: The immune system can fight back -- ScienceDaily
"We showed that even though COVID-19 is caused by a new virus, in an otherwise healthy person, a robust immune response across different cell types was associated with clinical recovery, similar to what we see in influenza," Professor Kedzierska said.

How to boost your immune system - Harvard Health
Nothing in these two links says that eating better will help you. I am a believer in fruits and veggies and exercise. But belief is not science, even when what we believe makes so much sense to us. It makes sense because we believe it, circular.

From the Harvard link you provided:

For now, there are no scientifically proven direct links between lifestyle and enhanced immune function...
Scientists have long recognized that people who live in poverty and are malnourished are more vulnerable to infectious diseases. Whether the increased rate of disease is caused by malnutrition's effect on the immune system, however, is not certain. There are still relatively few studies of the effects of nutrition on the immune system of humans.
There is some evidence that various micronutrient deficiencies — for example, deficiencies of zinc, selenium, iron, copper, folic acid, and vitamins A, B6, C, and E — alter immune responses in animals, as measured in the test tube. However, the impact of these immune system changes on the health of animals is less clear, and the effect of similar deficiencies on the human immune response has yet to be assessed.

The sciencedaily article is a report of measurement of immune functions in a patient with active COVID. It says absolutely nothing about diet or nutrition. It does say that a working immune system helps overcome COVID.

The point is we are just trying to flatten the curve with masks and social distancing. No one is talking about how we can increase our immune systems and focus on our health. Are we so busy judging everyone else for their behavior that we barely have time to focus on how we can help ourselves? Did you eat 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables and get a half hour of exercise yesterday? Everyday? There are many supplements that have been studied for a long time concerning helping us to raise our immune systems. Are you taking any of these supplements or are you researching how you can be healthier?
The point is that there is no evidence that 5 servings a day and 1/2 hr of exercise does anything to "increase our immune systems" And certainly no evidence that taking supplements helps avoid COVID either.

Thank you. The whole idea is to take measures to keep yourself healthy and safe. Combination of eating healthy. Excersizing. Social Distancing does not mean we can't say hi to our neighbors. Just don't hug, this is a hard one we are after all a tiuching society. Stay Safe. Keep praying.

Who knew a virus could have an agenda?

I read the editorial in today's paper but I don't see how you came to those conclusions.

Maybe you meant the editorial in yesterday's paper

I do look forward with eager anticipation to see you marching in front of the district office fully armed, wearing camo demanding your freedom to play pickleball and do laps in the pool. Right on, fight for your liberty.

However, there is so much we do not know about the virus that it is very dangerous to assume we know everything we need to know. Only when it is over will we know for sure. And that is some ways off.

Herd immunity the answer? Sweden is trying that; let's see how that plays out. Antibody testing? Very important. It could show us if we have been infected, have shown no symptoms, and are likely immune. That too is down the road.

Let's just stick with this a little longer. Be prudent. It won't kill us to social distance and stay close to home. Some areas in the country are going to be able to reopen their interactions, especially businesses, pretty quickly. We can't set the same dates and restrictions for everyone in the nation. If South Dakota can reopen, except in a couple of counties, let the local leaders decide. We do not want to throw our nation into a prolonged depression needlessly

And realize not everyone is working for our best interests. The press feasts on death, mayhem and the end of the world. Rosy predictions do not attract eyeballs; catastrophes do. And crises are perfect opportunities for scoundrels posing as politicians to accrue power, expand government and spend money like drunken sailors. We need to be prudent and wise and don't jump to conclusions too quickly.
Sweden is regretting their decision.

Sadly, there's no way to test 100% of the population to find out if 70% of them are immune, at the present time. Once a vaccine is developed, you could potentially create 70% immunity as long as 70% of the population agrees to be vaccinated.

None of that is going to happen in the next month. So in the meantime, you need to wash your hands, don't touch your face, social distance yourself, wear a mask if you can't social distance, and cough into your elbow if you have to cough and are near other people.
At this point, I would bet that 95% would love to get vaccinated.

NO ONE HAS THE ANSWER BECAUSE WE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS SO WE WERE NOT PREPARED. NOW THE PROTESTERS HAVE THE PRESIDENT BACKED UP AGAINST THE WALL ONCE AGAIN, HOW SHAMEFUL!!! SO HE HAS PUT THE DECISION ON THE GOVERNORS OF VARIOUS STATES AS FAR AS STAY-AT-HOME AND QUARANTINE AND OPENING UP THE COUNTRY. IF THE PROTESTERS CONTINUE THIS BEHAVIOR THEY WILL CREATE MORE CHAOS AND PROBLEMS TO ADD TO THE PROBLEMS WE ALREADY HAVE, SO WHY DON'T THEY JUST STOP IT ALREADY--AND STOP WITH "CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS" thing.

How silly.

How about Spain, Portugal, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Russia, Greece, Israel, Etc.Etc. Etc. You seem to think this great conspiracy was engineered to harm our country. The world is affected by this pathogen and this virus has no politics and no agenda.

No evidence? Just like they could not prove smoking caused lung cancer for years. Find me a health organization that says that increased F and V diet doesn't improve your immune system.

Why don't you spend some time on the NIH website and find studies that indicate that that it doesn't help.

If you wan't to be exposed to the latest research.

Diet and Immune Function

Effect of fruit and vegetable consumption on immune function in older people: a randomized controlled trial. - PubMed - NCBI

In the process you may find out why our rates of death to heart disease and cancer are far higher in our elderly than much poorer countries. You can start by reading the China Study by Colin Campbell.

And many thanks to Darield for raising this issue that has unfortunately been under reported.
