Might have been like it … in those days people talked in the terms they knew, just as we do today.

As former international missionaries, ours was Joshua 1:9: Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” This was dedicated to us before moving to El Salvador in 1980.

There are so many verses how can anyone pick a favorite. Let me start with Matthew 24 as a good beginning to the New Testament.

Glad you made it, as evidence by posting on TOTV in 2023. So, how did that verse work out for the Sandinistas????

Leviticus 25:44
44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

Default Romans

Romans 3:21–26. One of the most theologically dense and important passages in scripture on the most important topic in scripture: redemption.

In fact, throw in the whole book of Romans. It is Paul's Magnus opus.

I like John 2:5b.
Mary, the mother of Jesus instructed the servants, "do whatever he tells you to do"
Good advice for us too!

Psalms 137:9
“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.”

1 Samuel 25:22
“So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any that ****eth against the wall.”

Ezekiel 13:15
“Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it;”

[Interesting that a word that has been in the King James Version since 1611 got changed automatically to asterisks here.]

Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
