finding old friends with the new
(Administrator's note: I removed the couple's names for privacy. If you think you might recognize this couple, please drop a Private Message to the original poster. Tony)
Hi! I Will be coming to the Villages on 2/28 with my parents and sister to stay in one of the "cottages" for three days. Mom & Dad are contemplating a move from Miami and we wanted to check it out. After finding this site, it appears that the Villages is a very popular place to retire! Here's what I was wondering....We lived all over South and Central America while I was growing up. Mom and Dad made ALOT of friends over those years, and I was just wondering who, if any, might have ended up at the Villages. Is there a particular place to find/reconnect with old friends who might be there, as well as make new ones? Just in case there is no particular forum for this, here is their info: ************* lived in: Lima, Peru - Dad was with Sherwin Williams and they were there around 1955 to 1958 Panama City, Panama - Still with same company and they were there '58 to - early 60's Bogota, Colombia - Still with Sherwin Williams and they were there early 60's to mid 60's Guatemala City, Guatemala - Dad was now with Kelloggs, mid 60's to late 60's Caracas, Venezuela - Still with Kelloggs late 60's. We were only there less than 1 year Buenos Aires, Argentina - Kelloggs and we were there late 60's to 1974 Who knows, maybe one of you reading these pages will have lived where they did during those time frames and have friends in common. We are looking forward to our visit! Thanks and God Bless, Wendy |

Re: finding old friends with the new
TV publishes their own phone book, you may want to look through when you are here.

Re: finding old friends with the new
Thanks for that information! I will do that when we get there! In the meantime maybe a 'surfer' or two will stumble on this and know someone who knows someone who knows someone...

Re: finding old friends with the new
For now, I'd suggest you remove your parents' full names from this site. No matter what, this is a public forum and anyone could see the names, even those with not-so-good intentions.
In addition to the phone book, there are many clubs catering to those who are from or have lived in certain areas and countries, even some for those who specifically worked for certain companies. Meeting new friends is easy. The majority of people in TV are very friendly. All you have to do is find your interests, join those clubs (or simply go to a couple of meetings) and you have instant friends! I've managed to meet some wonderful people through my neighborhood, just wandering the squares, people here. It truly is not hard. Hope you all have a wonderful time on your visit. TV really is a great place.
