Congratulations, Joe!!! I can't remember exactly what I did the first day of retirement....Mike was still working so not too much changed at the house....I just didn't have to rush getting things done. When Mike retired, well, that was a different story. Those first days involved getting our household packed and starting our cross country drive. It was scary and EXCITING at the same time.

It does feel like a vacation for quite a while without a doubt. Keep your mind and body busy....retirement is great. ENJOY....and get here as soon as you can, we'll keep the light on and your lily pad ready.

I always thought that you really don't experience your first day of retirement fully. For me, I didn't really realize I was fully retired until 3-4 weeks later. Here's the reason. I felt that I was on vacation for a couple of weeks. Sometime around week three, I said to myself "Hey!! I can get used to this!!!" That is when I transitioned between being on vacation, to being retired! No regrets for one second.

I was fortunate enough to be at the proverbial right place at the right time and retired early at 56 by taking advantage of an early retirement deal from my employer. My wife retired 6 months later, and one month after that, we were closing on a CYV here in The Villages.

Golf was on our bucket list. My wife and I took lessons last year and are enjoying the game, our time together, the weather, the new friends we have met, the "lifestyle", etc etc etc.

Congratulations to one and all that lived long enough to be able to retire and are healthy enough, financially secure enough to enjoy this next exciting chapter in our lives!!!!!

O.K. , so now it is DAY THREE of retirement:

Just say:

"I don't want to"
"I don't have to"
"You can't make me"
"I'M RETIRED"

Enjoy a safe trip down to Florida on the 5th of April???? Don't speed.

Went to sleep last night at 10;30 and woke up at 9:00 AM. I good way to start retirement. Spent time on the puter and I am going to watch my Yankees Opening Day Game at the Sox at 1 PM. Maybe I'll go down tomorrow night and see the new stadium.

Does anyone remeber what they did on their first day of retirement?
Congratulations! It's nice when you can go to bed at any time you want and then get up whenever you feel like it. I've been doing that for nearly 2 decades. I've been retired for so long, I hardly remember what it's like to work. About 19 years ago, I told a friend of mine that I was going to retire and he said, "from what?". That's the way it is when you work for yourself.....nobody thinks you're really working. Ha!

Needless to say, I didn't have any trouble adjusting to retirement. I'm totally used to killing time and doing whatever. I actually enjoy relaxing and having a lot of idle time.

What about you? Will you need to have a full schedule of activities? Nothing wrong with that!

My full schedule starts tomorrow with a car trip to Florida. Then house hunting in TV. Maybe buying a turnkey but I am leanng toward furnishing it myself in my own taste.

Then it's party time and doing what I want to do.

Joe, Hope you are traveling safely or maybe you are already in Florida by now. It must be a nice feeling to think of your old job and realize it's NMPA (which means Not My Problem Anymore!).

I think he left yesterday, driving down with his son who flew up to CT.
Hope he's not there yet.....it's doable, but not safe to drive it all in 24 hours.
