Congratulations, Joe!!! I can't remember exactly what I did the first day of retirement....Mike was still working so not too much changed at the house....I just didn't have to rush getting things done. When Mike retired, well, that was a different story. Those first days involved getting our household packed and starting our cross country drive. It was scary and EXCITING at the same time.
It does feel like a vacation for quite a while without a doubt. Keep your mind and body busy....retirement is great. ENJOY....and get here as soon as you can, we'll keep the light on and your lily pad ready.

I always thought that you really don't experience your first day of retirement fully. For me, I didn't really realize I was fully retired until 3-4 weeks later. Here's the reason. I felt that I was on vacation for a couple of weeks. Sometime around week three, I said to myself "Hey!! I can get used to this!!!" That is when I transitioned between being on vacation, to being retired! No regrets for one second.
I was fortunate enough to be at the proverbial right place at the right time and retired early at 56 by taking advantage of an early retirement deal from my employer. My wife retired 6 months later, and one month after that, we were closing on a CYV here in The Villages. Golf was on our bucket list. My wife and I took lessons last year and are enjoying the game, our time together, the weather, the new friends we have met, the "lifestyle", etc etc etc. Congratulations to one and all that lived long enough to be able to retire and are healthy enough, financially secure enough to enjoy this next exciting chapter in our lives!!!!!

Needless to say, I didn't have any trouble adjusting to retirement. I'm totally used to killing time and doing whatever. I actually enjoy relaxing and having a lot of idle time. What about you? Will you need to have a full schedule of activities? Nothing wrong with that! |

My full schedule starts tomorrow with a car trip to Florida. Then house hunting in TV. Maybe buying a turnkey but I am leanng toward furnishing it myself in my own taste.
Then it's party time and doing what I want to do.

Joe, Hope you are traveling safely or maybe you are already in Florida by now. It must be a nice feeling to think of your old job and realize it's NMPA (which means Not My Problem Anymore!).

Hope he's not there yet.....it's doable, but not safe to drive it all in 24 hours. |
