Default Toddler Smart-phone

Any thoughts of a two year old having their own smart phone?

There are lots of online warnings about how the use of iPads and smart phone will impede brain development in toddlers.

It's harmful to their development and learning in many different ways!

Rusty, I'd give it up. Your kids are going to raise their kids as they see fit. You can have a hissy fit about all of it, you can get the opinions of everyone but you can't stop them from raising your grandkids as they want. Unless you feel they are being abused or neglected, I'd let it go, be the doting grandparent, set the rules for your household (one of mine is phones off when visiting me) or risk not seeing your family.

Just minutes ago my DIL sent me a pic of our 2yr old granddaughter taking a selfie. No it is not the toddlers phone, BUT....she LOVES using it! I'm afraid the techno age is here to stay and us grands better get used to it!

There are some interactive toys that kind of look like smart phones. Do you mean that?

and there are some words of wisdom here from Redwitch. Most of us worry in some way about our children and how they are doing things.

Hugs.

While I agree with Redwitch, I'm concerned. Our grand niece is kept away from screens of any type until age two, and then only very limited use till age 4, due to studies that have been on the effects of watching screens on brain development.
The only down side of that is the lack of Skype time her grandparents can have with her, as they live so far away.

However, that has made both grandparents and parents double the efforts to see each other. (The mother travels for work, brings the toddler with her, and the grandparents meet her, rent an apartment, and baby-sit.)

All that Baby Einstein stuff has proven to have a negative effect on brain development and ability to focus.
