For good service I unusually tip 20%. I put 10% on the card and leave 10% or more in cash.

If this server gets that many bad tips, is it possible she does not provide quality or cheerful service? Just a thought.

There are some that feel that all pay should be for lack of a better word, fairer. That money should be taken from those who make a lot and given to those who make little.

When you raise the minimum wage you raise the prices of many things and it cycles. For many serving is a temporary thing and for others it is their life work.

I don't believe anybody is advocating that at all. If serving became life's work, as it is in Western Europe, there would be no part-timers, college students, starving artists, etc. trying to subsidize their education or dreams. It would be their career, the standards for hire would be more stringent, and the service would end up being better.

No one would be walking out on a restaurant full of patrons because they couldn't stand the pressure. Those types would never be hired in the first place.

Let's assume I ate out twice last week. My server at each restaurant provided the same good service with a cheerful demeanor. At one resaurant my meal was $25, and at the other was $50. Is it equitable that the first server gets a $5 tip while the second gets a $10 tip?
