Default GE Refrigerator/Dishwasher

The inferior GE refrigerator and dish washer are on their last legs. The refrigerator side by side moans constantly as if it's in pain and the dishwasher is not doing it's job, I am.
I'm at a loss as what brand and where to get the best price for a bottom freezer refrigerator. Consumer Reports rated the Samsung as the best but I'm not familiar with Samsung appliances. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I would look at Amana, Maytag, and Whirlpool. They are reputable brands and their bottom-freezer refrigerators are all made in Amana, Iowa. I believe that their dishwashers are made in Ohio.

I don't know where to get the best pricing, but usually start with an internet search.

We recently purchased an LG from Best Buy.
The ease of an actual bottom door for the freezer is what sold my wife.
Pretend you are loading or looking for an item in those bottom freezers and compare some different makes. Some of them are not very user friendly.
No long-term experience yet, but so far, so good.

Hi duffysmom, I hate the thought of having to take the appliances that come with the designer homes as they do seem to be on the lower end of appliances and I am no snob. Just want to have the ones that last. Re the Samsung, we remodeled our kitchen last summer in anticipation of selling for our move to TV. I chose a Samsung stove and just love it! It's a smooth top with convection. The better quality from the knobs to the oven door to the bottom drawer is so evident and influenced my choice. Glad I made it! It had a higher quality feel than the Profiles and cost less! Hope this helps a little. Can't vouch for all their appliances, but this one is great!

Hi duffys mom,
We bought the Kenmore french door refrigerator 3 years ago and we love it. We're buying a designer home over in Pennecamp so we picked out the french door model in the GE. No choice on the brand but there was on the style. The french door is great for accomodating large platters or pizza boxes and our electric bill went down quite a bit after replacing our sidexside. I can't dis GE as we are GE retirees but at the time the Kenmore was a terrific sale price.

I also bought a Kenmore French Door for our last house about 2 1/2 years ago and loved it. It had the bottom freezer but I didn't get the water ice dispenser in the door, just the ice maker in freezer. The door was the textured style too. Loved it so I took the GE French door and it's okay but doesn't have as much room in the refrigerator due to the ice/water dispenser in the door. When this one goes I will probably buy Kenmore again since LG makes a lot of their products now. Since my new GE fridge is black I was not happy that the front of the doors are not textured, the sides are. It is a pain keeping it looking nice. The textured is so much easier.

The August issue of Consumer Reports (pg32) rates the Whirlpool Gold, LG,Samsung,Jenny Air, and Maytag as the best. pricy ...$1700...2500. We have a Bosch dishwasher. kenmore, Bosch, and KitchenAid are highly rated.
Major appliance stores are rated on pg21. Lowes and hhgreg are rated #4 and 5 respectively. sears is # 8.

We replaced our refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave last year. I got on Sears website and looked at the ratings and comments by consumers on the ones they offer (they offer many different brands). What I found was some models of a given brand were superior and some inferior. No particular brand was stellar across the board on any appliance. We purchased the highest rated microwave and dishwasher from Sears, getting online special pricing and delivered to our local store. The dishwasher is a Whirlpool, the microwave is an Amana. We found the top rated Frigidaire refrigerator at a local store $200 cheaper than the online price at Sears. I have a truck, so delivery was not any issue, and I hired a local handyman to install the dishwasher and refrigerator. The thing I found was that all these companies make dozens of models, some of which look identical, but they differ in small ways that can and does affect performance. Do your research and you stand a good chance of getting a quality appliance.

I am looking for a french door bottom freezer too. LG is rated high. I have been studying all possibilities and have not decided yet. Best Buy has a nice selection to look at & study the difference. I was also looking at GE. My hunt is for ALL the appliances in the kitchen. My goal is to buy all new appliances for our new home when we move in. I'm not happy with what TV offers. I'm taking the base appliances which I will sell. I may keep the fridge for the garage and sell all the others (black).

Which local store did you buy from? Later I will ask for the handyman's # also.
Thanks in advance.

Jaspal, what type of appliances come with the TV homes? Are you able to upgrade or is it cheaper to buy on your own?

Thanks.

I have bought numerous appliances from Appliance Direct and were very well pleased with the price and the product, they do have a delivery service that is very reasonable. Just check them out.

The appliances are VERY basic GE (smaller fridge). The upgrade for what I did not really want was $4850. I can get (even better appliances) for $3800-$4200 depending on the fridge I decide on. I will be paying less & having items to sell after plus most importantly---have the items I want for less.

I agree! When I saw the GE french door I found that the ice-maker took a lot of space. LG & Sears seems better. Still making that final decision.
