Default How to gift money to someone in England?

Is it possible to send cash/money to someone in England who has no bank account?
Apparently they can't 'cash a check from a bank in the USA

1. Make absolutely sure this is not a scam. A desire to bypass the security of banking channels is a red flag.

2. Talk to your bank - they probably know what is possible.

Depends how much you're sending, but Venmo might be an option (or Paypal)

Here is an idea. Buy a debit card with an online locking feature. Lock the card before you mail it. Then, when the person receives the card, you can go online and unlock it.

I promise you I'm not a scammer. Just asking you to help me to help them.
Banks need the recipient to have a bank account, and it's mostly 'OnLine' which is not an option either

If you are the one sending money then you are not likely to be the scammer.

Since banks know that banks need a receiving account to transfer through a bank they might also know ways to send money without going through the bank. This might not be the first time someone has attempted to do this and a bank may have an answer.

If you want to go old school, how about Western Union? They should have Western Union in Publix or Walgreens, you give them money and then the recipient goes to a Western Union office in England and picks up the cash.....or at least I think that is how it works.

I think you can go to your bank and buy a prepaid VISA debit card. Go online and lock the card. Then, mail the card to your friend. When they receive it, you can go online and unlock the card. Your friend can use the card at any store, even though they don't have a bank account. No one can use the card until you unlock it.

No one is suggesting that you are a scammer. They're suggesting that the person "in England" might be a scammer, scamming you out of money because they've convinced you to "help" them.

If it's someone you know well enough IN PERSON that you've visited before, a family member, neighbor, etc - call their usual phone number or check with one of THEIR relatives who are still here in the States. Make sure the person you're trying to help really is in England, and isn't lying to you in an effort to scam you out of your money.

Once you've confirmed that they're legit, you can send them money via Western Union. Walmart offers the service. There are fees involved.
