I think sometimes they (he, she,it?) tries to get as many alphabet letters in one street name as possible.

i would think in the begining it was fun to name streets...now wonder if they come up with a theme and go from there like the decor in the rec centers

Keeping in mind where the family came from (Traverse City, Michigan) there are a lot of references to Michigan and the top of the mitten area. For example, the Sales Office in Sumter is (supposed to be) patterned after the Grand Hotel on Mackinac (aka Mackinaw) island. And just the other day I was surprised and pleased to see Torch Lake road.

Some areas have a few streets of themed names, others are of the, Where'd they come up with that name? Then there are others that should have been better thought through
Killingsworth, Resthaven, the previously mentioned Craven.

There are good idea at the time names...St Charles is the home of Bassinger and Baldwin...Oops! How'd that turn out in real life?

(Not to mention the Bogart and Bacall exec courses.)

South side of 466a villages and most major feeder streets are named for counties, a city, or an island in Florida. The street on which I live is named after a small Florida town (Luraville, boring and a bit dull) that happens to have some of the best cave diving springs in the country. Who knew?

I would like to find out the current square mileage of The Villages. That is not so easy as the borders are not even to just multiply length times width. I did some very rough calculation and think it is near 90 square miles since you have to consider the Historic side on the other side of 441/27.
Took some visiting friends on a ride on the trolley this weekend, the guide said The Villages is 34,000 acres. Which if I am correct comes out to 53 and 1/8 sq. mi.

...... Do the folks who live on "Craven Street" know what "craven" means? (Look it up.)

Why are El Camino Real and Paige Place actually the same street? ...
Perhaps Craven Way was named for William "The Earl of Craven"
(..later referred to as Lord Craven.)
He was one of the origional Lord Proprietors of the Province of Carolina.
He lived to be 90 (not bad for being born in 1606).

On the other hand.....Craven County North Carolina ....
..............................IS between Ablemarle, N.C. and " CAPE FEAR ".

Perhaps the method of naming...
...............El Camino Real ( The Kings Highway ).
...............Paige Place (Paige is one of the grandkids)

The El Camino Real portion is in Sumter County.
The Paige Place portion is in Lake County.....
............ WITHIN the boundry of City of Lady Lake.

As of TODAY there are PLANS for 76 Vilages in total.
However, in 2000 we were told there would be NO HOMES
built SOUTH of CR 466. We all know how that worked out.

Seems that Jack ODell and Clyde Bailey BOTH decided
to sell their MASSIVE Ranches. Hence we have .........
ODell Circle and Bailey Trail in the portions of The Villages
where the Ranches were located.

Not long ago The Baker Family decided to sell almost
all of the Baker Farm. That added close to 1000 acres to
the overall size of The Villages.
Take a ride out State Road 44 (the Road at South edge of
Brownwood.) Go East toward Leesburg.
When you get to the Lake County / Sumter County line...
...(the BIG powerlines are there) ...
turn around and head back.. look to the North
The Villages is ALREADY there.
Then turn off on 44a and come back to Buena Vista Blvd.
