Default Founding Fathers rolling over in their graves?

The US government has chosen to close 10’s of thousands if not 100’s of thousands of small business while Walmart is allowed to sell anything from underwear to fishing lures. Surely forcing many thousands of businesses into bankruptcy. Worse yet the various government agencies disallowed church services on one of the most holy days of Christian belief. And yet all I seem to hear around here is “ please mr. government help us, tell us what else we need to do, shut down, or disallow? Please help us...”

Our community (55+) should be the most vocal against this abuse of government power. Help the younger people to understand that this great country was not built on socialistic government control. Yes, they (the government) should apply all resources to finding a treatment, a vaccine, and informing the citizens of the best way to combat it. And yes, every individual and business owner should be free to choose to stay home or close it’s doors. And yes every church should decide what is best for their parishioners . But the government has vastly overstepped their moral and ethical bounds. Yes, they have the “right” to do what they have done only because they wrote it into their own laws and we the people choose to let them do it. But lessons need to be learned and the government needs to hear that they are out of line, else the next time they will encroach even further onto our civil liberties.

Let the shooting of the messenger begin!....

Nope but also disagree, since you believe you have a right to infect and kill people with a virus because you want to I want them to take away your civil liberties since you don't seem to care whom you hurt.

Take advice from members of the armed services on military maters.
Take advice on health from the medical experts.
From these people you will receive information based on facts not emotion or personal desires.

I believe 100% that you are correct. We will look back on this and find that all the shutdowns were an over reaction to what was reported to us and that the virus wasn't near as deadly as 1st reported. One positive would be less dependence on China possibly.

The OP is pointing a finger at the "U.S. Government" for abusing government power. But, what about the rest of the world? Aren't they doing basically the same thing as far as shutting things down? Even the Pope cancelled his open church service. What government is acting differently?

We look back at the interment of Japanese in America, some thought it horrible when it was happening. Who was right, history judges it was unfair but justifiable do to panic. Better to be safe than sorry? And, we did make amends!

Believe it or not, the public is often to stupid to protect itself. There are those that do not believe this virus is a problem and go around infecting others. If you want to jump off a bridge then jump but dont grab someone on your way down.

Step back and take a breath. First of all churches are just buildings made of mortar and wood. You don't need to be in a building full of people who could potentially kill you with a virus they are carrying. You can read the Bible at home, you can pray at home, you can watch a service on your tv. You don't need to be in a church building. Think about the clergy and their families. Do they want to expose their families to this awful disease. We need to concur this disease and packing people into a building will only further the assault we are under. Second: Wal-Mart also provides not only food but has a pharmacy inside its' building which makes it an essential business. I have seen much smaller grocery stores still open, because again, they are essential. The stimulus package, when in finally arrives, will get the small business back on their feet. This type of setback happens whenever there is a disaster not just this virus. The real question is: How often do people make it a point to shop at only small retail stores? These small business will also get no interest loans to help get them up and running again. A well run small business if handled properly will have enough backup assets to hold them for a few months just in case. So yes, we do need Wal-Mart stores, Targets and the like. Third: Government doesn't always get it right because there are far to many cooks in the kitchen. Our governor could do a better job in not playing politics and getting what The Villages really needs, a huge testing site for all of our residents to have access to. Being a research site doesn't cut it.

Totally agree. People like the government when it benefits them but are full of one way thinking when they are not pleased. Think about it.
