hey ugotme, there is no shame in having disciplined a child.....and a good whack when one is deserved is nothing to be ashamed of....somehow I survuved and most my age and I got my share of deserved whacks as most of us did. And I did so on my kids.

I see no value added by the permissive, passive, no impact "discipline"(?) of today's youth.

Parents are more into talking or texting than they are to paying attention to their children's needs (including a good whack). THere are still some who subscribe to discipline, but all too quickly declining in numbers.

I thought I would throw one time not long ago listening to one of my grandchildren explain how they were instructed to report their parents to the school counselors for how they were treated. As a result far too many parents hide behind such BS......

Once agian another event that makes me so glad I am of the generation I am proud to be a part of.......

Who are the "THEM" in your post? It certainly is not ALL young people. The military is all-volunteer now and those are some mighty fine young people. Most of the volunteers in the military were probably the products of public school with free books, free cell phones if they were from poor backgrounds, and the right to free counsel has been part of the "Miranda" warning since 1966.

The stupid girl in the photo deserves all the grief that has been and will be heaped on her. Chances are that photo will follow her for a long time and she will remain unemployed - and might even get a free cell phone.

I sure hope the admin does not mind me responding directly since you spoke directly to me...wont take long,,

1. Not sure how the military got involved here, as I never mentioned anyone in military. I referred to the generic that was being used in the thread.

2. I have absolutely no idea what Miranda has to do with legal counsel at all in anyway ! Miranda means you do not have to talk without counsel but it does not guarantee payment for counsel.

3. I did not see anyone defending that gal at all.

Sorry it took me so long !

You and I are not in disagreement about this whatsoever. I mentioned the military as not all young people should be put into the unpatriotic and stupid category. Some, like the military, are fine, young people. Poor people are afforded public defenders - I have no problem with that. That gal is garbage.

In a world where those aged from 12-34 control the popular culture we have come to expect this sort of childish and downright stupid behavior as people race to find their 15 seconds of fame. Yes I know the quote is 15 minutes of fame, but in today's world it's closer to 15 seconds.

If you have lots of time to waste and have plenty of Pepto-Bismol on hand take a look at the junk that passes for important news on places like YouTube and FarceBook. Many people have no concept of the fact that when they put up all these stupid pictures and videos that they have a half-life that's longer than nuclear waste and will eventually come back to bite you good and solid, especially when you go job hunting.

Today's popular culture hardly discourages the kind of activity that this woman did, and unfortunately in too many circles it is celebrated. Expect things to get worse and not better.

Here is an excerpt from the standard Miranda warning:

"You have the right to be speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be provided for you at government expense."

Thanks for the correction and I apologize for saying something not true,

You would think with all the cop shows that I would know that, but when I hear Mirenda, I think only of the questioning and not the counsel itself.

Thanks and again and sorry for my error.

I've never had this problem, and hope never to have it in the future, but I wonder who decides what cannot be afforded..and gets the freebie lawyer??

I was just wondering if today's cultural social media has placed too much importance on having to know something right away. This has possibly led to some people who have a self imposed importance of what they have to say is so great, that it must be made available to the world.

When I see some of thoughtless tweets, it makes me think it would have be better to, not being said. I was always careful that something that needed to be communicated was not to be put in the printed word form but that's me.

Just sayin.....

Oh trust me BTK I feel no shame whatsoever in doling out discipline. I feel shame for the parents and kids who will grow up to be obnoxious and do things like this girl did.
