Taxachessettes can't be beaten by Conntaxuoneverything!!!

CT voted the worst state to retire in!!! They claim because the CT income level is higher. I was flabbergasted to find you get taxed on your car because it is property. The newer the car, the higher the tax so I drove an old clunker.

CT is a good state to be from.

When I lived in Virginia, the state, city, and county you lived in taxed you on every thing they could think of. I don't know if it ever got better.

Oh Yea!!!

CT taxed you on everything that stayed put and moved. All the taxes on NY and a couple of more.

We'll continue this discussion at Happy Hour!!!

I'm sure we agree the taxes in TV, are much more reasonable.

We were taken by surprise when we visited here. Love at first sight! If we hadn't visited we would have continued to work until age 70 and we would have stayed in Utah and complained about the winters. Our 4 kids and 12 grandkids are spread across the country, so we would have visited them. Since we are here, they visit us more because they have so much fun in The Villages.

We stretched to get here at age 65, and we are so glad we did. We have to pace ourselves with upgrades, landscaping etc. But we are both so happy that we did it and aren't still muddling through a 9 mo snow season.

Like many, we feel that we live in a resort and have the opportunity to be happier at this stage of our lives than we ever imagined. Thanks to the Morse family!

Oh yea, Utah had income tax, property tax on vehicles. Our first car there was $700 to get the initial tags, title and registration. They also tax groceries.

If anyone would have told me that I would move from SoCal to Florida, I would have laughed so hard. What? No wayyyyyy!!! One trip here, however, and I was home. Although I still don't love Florida summer heat and humidity, I do like living here. It certainly is more affordable than SoCal and offers a lot of opportunities to meet new people and have fun. I knew when I retired I would be bored staying in Los Angeles because all my friends would still be working so I ventured out to see what I could find. Boy, was that a lucky break.

If I hadn't moved here, my plan was to live Summers in Flagstaff, AZ and winters in Phoenix or Tuscon.

I was living in Bel Air, Maryland the last 22 years before moving here. It was a place that I enjoyed and was growing leaps & bounds, even had a Wegman's open 5 minutes away. However, after I got back into golf in 2009 and then thought about softball and other outdoors sports, I realized I needed to go south.

It would of been probably one of three choices. Retire to Pensacola, where I lived from 1977 to '82. Retire to Timber Pines, a gated community in Spring Hill, FL that my parents retired to in 1983 and lived there until 1998. Retire to Myrtle Beach, a place that we visited three times in 1997 and considered living there at that time.

Small world, John. My wife is from Bel Air. How you people can eat steamed crabs is beyond me.
We would still be living in our motorhome, summers between CT and WY, winters anyplace warm, probably FL

We would be somewhere in Florida in one of the smaller communities. Maybe Tampa or Sarasota area.

Living on a lake outside of Atlanta. We were looking for a summer lake home when I stopped and said we can't live here. Summers would be great with family and friends, but would be miserable with no activities in winter. Hubby agreed.

So glad we found heaven on earth.

When I retired from my job in DC, I bought a condo on St. Augustine Beach but moved back to Michigan to help with my ailing father. I intended to eventually live on the beach in St Augustine. In December, 2011 Mom and I came over to TV for a few days! I put a hold on my lot on that trip, had a design team meeting in February, they started building my home in March and we closed in May! Oops, I forgot when we got back to our condo in December, we put our condo on the market! Unfortunately, I am not living in my TVE home yet!

I don't know. We tried a number of places after retiring. If money were not an issue, I would have pushed for Key West, a place we rented for six winters and I worked from home there while hubby traveled extensively for work and flew in on weekends. But whoa, the prices.
