You Have A Payment Alert!!!
During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures, we have detected a slight error in your account information.

This might be due to either of the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information ( i.e. change of address).
2. Submitting invalid information during the initial sign up process.
3. You have a payment alert.

Please update and verify your information by clicking the link below:

www.suntrust.com/paymentalert.html

Thank you for banking with us.

???The problem stems from the fact that I have never done any business with this bank or even been in one. What if anything should I do about this?? (I did not click on the link to see what info was being requested) Your thoughts and ideas will be appreciated :dontknow:

Report it to ebay. This is phishing. Do not respond to it.

Don't open it, banks do not send emails asking for that information. You are being phished. Delete the email.

(Did I miss something, Sam? I didn't see eBay mentioned in the email.) :dontknow:

These scammers "phish" by sending out mass mailings, usually picking on one financial institution at a time. Do report it to Suntrust. Some banks actively go after these phishers, some don't. It's usually a waste of time since they are overseas. If you ever get one for a bank that you do do business, do not click on the link. Instead, either call your bank or go directly to the bank's website to make sure all is okay with your account and then report it.

I wouldn't click on the link, but separately you can go to the SunTrust web site (www.suntrust.com) and click on "Fraud Alerts." It discusses phishing and what you can do. I'd also go to or call SunTrust in the morning to report it.

I said ebay because of the Paypal link. Mea Culpa. Report to Paypal. You can tell I've been online shopping lately!

I agree! Do not open it and forward it to both eBay and Paypal. My daughter works for eBay and eBay owns Paypal. These types of emails are getting more and more sophisticated and it's hard for companies to keep up with them. Lots and lots of scams out there. Beware!

Hi - I didn't see any reference to Paypal in the email. Somebody's drinking too much of the Kool Aid. (or something).

Cassie, If you have not been phished by phishers trying to get into your Paypal acct, you are one lucky little fish!!! Sometimes they reference your ebay acct hoping you will go on through to Paypal. It's never happened to you???
Granny, you are correct. I use Paypal often and the "payment"registered in my brain as Paypal. Since I have gotten many similar letters about my Paypal account, I just went there.
It's just another example of internet scams. Wanna go to Nigeria to collect my inheritance with me?

I get them all the time..Every one is right..They are fraudulent!

When you get them send to spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com
You will receive a reply from either Ebay or Paypal, telling you it was a fraud, and thanking you for reporting them.

It is too bad there are so many people out to hurt and defraud others!

NJGRANNY, maybe Sam drank too much regular iced tea last night! Sam, this one is for Suntrust. I have received this type of email for suntrust, ebay, paypal, bank of america, etc...and have reported it directly to their website, never never respond to one of these emails. The banks, ebay, paypal, etc. do appreciate you notifying them directly at their site and often ask for all the info in the email, so they can try to find the perpertrators. It is important that you do all personal information business directly with a site, and never through a phony email attempt to get info from you. Thats what Phishing is, bogus scam artists trying to get your personal info. DELETE after reporting!!

another way to tell is to move your mouse over the link (don't click on it)...depending on your email program and/or browser, you should be able to see the address that it intends to take you to. It may say www.suntrust.com but when you "mouse over" it it usually will show you a totally unrelated address that you will be redirected to... a sure sign of fraud.
