Default Line dancing?

We are finally moving to TV full time and I can go to line dancing lessons. I am a true beginner. Should I sign up for Lifelong Learning College classes or is there another place to learn?

Thanks!

Pat

Hi Pat, there are are free line dancing classes taught at various rec centers; the schedule will be in the Rec Center News that comes out each Thursday. I haven't done alot of line dancing, but when I attended the rec center classes a few time I felt that even as a beginner I was learning.

I have not taken the classes at the Lifelong Learning Center, but I am sure that they are very good.

I just wanted to answer your question about whether there were other options. Probably there are people on here who can answer more specifically as to reasons for doing one or the other as a beginner; or maybe you should do both!? The nice thing about the rec centers is that there are different times/days of the week that may work around the other things you will be doing.

I highly recommend going through the college, and signing up for "Line Dancing for Dummies", taught by Jan Ramsey. She starts at the very beginning, and has the patience of a saint! Try the rec centers, and you will most likely get a bit frustrated. At least that was our experience. We (wife & I) have now taken Line Dancing for Dummies 5 times and are now comfortable with dancing 3 -4 of the most popular (easy) dances. Jan's classes are worth every penny you pay!
Good luck!

A great beginner-beginner line dance class is held Mondays from 12:00 - 1:00 at Colony Cottage. I highly recommend trying that class first. Have fun!

Another great class (free) is held at Laurel Manor every Tuesday from 12 noon to 1:20PM. It absolutely for beginners. We have new people coming to it every Tuesday. The insructor is great and has the patience of a Saint. Hope to see you there.

I love to dance, but do not know any line dance besides the "electric slide" and went to my very first line dance class at Colony Rec center at noon last Monday. It's an "ultra beginners" class taught by "the twins" whom I remembered reading about on a post right here on TOTV a while back. Although the class was packed, I thought it was great - one of the twins led on the stage up front and the other was in the back and took time to dance next to folks when she noticed they might be having a little difficulty. Instructions were clear, concise and dances were easy to follow - the entire class seemed to have done really well in the hour we were there. The instructor for the Laurel Manor (Jene I believe?) was also in attendance and I bet her class is great too...I plan to go to BOTH classes, as I am trying to take advantage of all the "free stuff" as a new villager. So, my advice is to first try the rec center classes (I make choices based on proximity to where I live).....then if you decide they are too big and you prefer a smaller more intimate group, consider other options.
