Nope, that was not a perceived affront, but rather that was a violation of international law and the perpetrators should be tracked down and punished for it, which is exactly what we did.

If we look back on the succession of our conflicts including World War II, World War I, the American Civil War, and so on and so on, all the way back to the Dark Ages, we see that homo sapiens breed conflict. Human beings, I'm sorry to say, for all of our boasting about how superior we are to the rest of life forms, seem to be judgmental and violent by nature. The only difference today is that most of the conflict and killing in today's world is done in the name of a religion. Now before you get riled up, I'm a Christian, but I'm just telling you what I observe.

What can we do? Try to overcome our nature and thus stop being so judgmental, and stop reacting to perceived affronts with violence. Teach our children to see the world in a different way.

Good luck with that.
Maybe I was too hasty in my judgement. This is a positive comment. The world has problems, the world has always had problems but it is how we we address those issues with compassion, hope and and have where with all to change.

They got Osama Bib Laden who was supposedly the master mind behind this attack. I do think we should stop monsters like Bin Laden, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Pol Pot,. etc with whatever means possible. The United Nations, though, should have the real force.

In exchange, they would milk the cows or split fire wood. That day is long gone.

I cringe when I hear the problem is too big for any individual. It has to start with the individual and not depend on the government. Just a few simple things that come to mind:
When tissues are on sale, donate them to a head start program
When there's a bogo on laundry detergent, donate one to a animal rescue
When you find you don't like the case of black beans you purchased at Costco, donate
to a food bank.

Right now we're down sizing. The baby stuff we had for our grandchildren when they slept over will be going to a young couple starting out. We've asked when they are done with the items to donate to a shelter for abused woman with children. What you may see as junk, would make a tremendous difference to someone else.

The mess of the world begins with us.
Excellent post. Nana for president.

Patty, God knows what He is doing and what He has planned for the world. Prayer is a mighty force that can move mountains, and God will not be mocked.

Unless you believe God controls tornadoes, hurricanes, fires, floods, epidemics, cures, politicians, criminals, etc. God needs a lot of help. He did give us free will so it is pretty much up to us. Of course, he can see what Putin might do in 2030 if Putin is still in power in Russia at that time. We cannot.

Now, whether we make the right decisions may be under his influence to a certain extent. I do believe God works through our consciences and dreams and gives us hints at what we should do.

Your statement is correct, however the world is micro small when compared to any time in the past, and we now have powerful deadly nuclear weapons or capability.

Y'know, all this God stuff on this thread is getting out of hand. I do believe in the power of prayer, but I believe it to be more of an internal thing.

I think sometimes God needs a helping hand, so... I believe in the USMC, the SEALS, a good education and hard work.

I appreciate your advise but not everyone believes in The Lord Jesus Christ. In fact many of the world's problems are due to different views on Religion.

Me too. If you read some of the Gospels too it seems more about sincere belief in God in private rather than ostentatious pageantry in public.

I doubt the world is any bigger mess but two things have changed. Instant communication lets us know more and the weapons we have available can harm a lot more people.
