Default Man dies at South Dakota hotdog eating contest

A fourth of July hotdog eating contest turned tragic when a man choked to death on a hotdog.

These stupid contests are promoted by industry and only exist for advertising purposes. The contests were mentioned on the radio every hour on the hour like it was news. But when someone choked to death in one of the contests, I never heard about it on the news. I heard about it on a late-night radio talk-show.

Elizabeth Taylor once nearly choked to death on a piece of fried chicken. No contest involved!

I agree.......stupid contest. But it was reported on the news, including the AP, ABC, CBS, Fox and a number of newspapers.

Default Bring a lawsuit for choking to death on a hotdog?

Yes, I don't believe in frivolous lawsuits but this would not be frivolous in my opinion. I hope the family of the man will bring a 10 or 20 million dollar lawsuit against the promoters of the contest.

I don't have TV and I didn't hear about it on the radio news and I didn't see it in the Daily Sun either.

You would think that they would have a few Heimlich experts at these contests in case of choking.

No one forced him to choke down hotdogs.

Not if you add yellow mustard, onions and relish in the right combination

It would be a shame to see a lawsuit for this. He made the choice to stuff himself with hot dogs. Grown up people certainly know they could choke if they choose to stuff themselves like that.

That would be the definition of frivolous.

I would never sue if I choked one or both of my pickles.

I hope he had to sign some kind of a no-fault claim (or what ever they call it).

It just happened to be a hot dog, a TOFU eating contest might have had the same ending.
