Man dies in Custer hot dog eating contest

The article mentions a man in FL dying from a contest that involved eating live cockroaches. I had not heard of that before.

I do not think that people should be able to sue when they are fully aware of the risks and careful precautions are taken by the promoter. It looks like they had paramedics on site.

Why? Was he somehow forced into entering the contest?

If a lawsuit is brought, it would be about a frivolous as it gets.

Although this guy relished this kind of contest, it's obvious that he just couldn't cut the mustard. I think that really is the meat of the matter.

Mamma Cass did not chocked to death on a ham sandwich. Mama Cass died in her sleep from a heart attack.

No she didn't. It was a hard attack brought on by fatty myocardial degeneration.

doug: your right. I went to Wikipedia and discovered that because a half eaten ham sandwich was found on her night stand police initially believed she choked to death on it and the story took on a life of its own and that's what I remembered . apparently her hard hitting diet weakened her creating the onset of the heart attack. Mea culpa

That's what it appeared to be on the surface but Mama Cass, had a heart attack, while eating a ham sandwich.

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread.

I have an avid follower of sports since I was seven years old.

How anyone can consider eating x amount of hotdogs in x minutes is a sport, in way beyond my comprehension.

The lawsuit would be frivilious. IMHO

Another case of a family trying to blame someone else, for their troubles.

True, but he was given a monetary incentive to do something potentially hazardous.

What if I offer $10,000 to the person who walks the fastest all the way around a narrow ledge up near the top of a ten story building? If people fall off and die, would that be okay too?
