That is based on a 12′x12′ solar panel costing $7000 and using 5 billion of these roadway panels to cover the millions of miles of roadways, parking lots and driveways in the US and the cost of jackhammering the current roadway system.

I agree with you uujudy on the idea of magnets. But there would be no need for electric vehicles.

My vision is magnetic highways that create the energy to allow vehicles to move (you know,like the roller coasters nowadays), using the opposing force of magnets. These vehicles would never collide due to opposing magnetic cushions on the front, rear and sides.

Additionally, the highways would be lit at night via solar energy collected during the day so no need for headlights, and they would be encased in a see-thru material so there is no impact from weather.

Speed would be controlled by the highway operators based on the amount of magnetism expelled from beneath and from the sides of the roadway.

You simply enter your vehicle, punch in your destination on the futuristic gps, sit back and enjoy the ride -- no need to steer or push an accelerator.

I'll leave the problem of air conditioning inside the highway "tubes" to our future engineers.

With no accidents, they might as well be high speed.

A question for GG's grandson: how do you enter and exit various roads (besides very carefully) and time this with other "cars" entering and exiting?

Since this is my vision, I can easily answer this one for you. There is no longer any merging. The timing of entering and exiting various highways and roads is not a concern for the travelers, because the highway "operators" take care of stopping and starting traffic from their control rooms.

There are no more bumpy roads, because you will be riding on air.
