Default Need Car Advice

I hope somebody can help me understand why the 3 passenger windows in my car suddenly stopped working.
The driver's side window still works fine, and the roof windows work fine. Only the 3 passenger windows stopped working. I tried the individual controls and the driver's controls. Nope. Nothing. I don't think it's the child lock, because the windows don't work from the driver's console. Anybody have an idea? I could probably get out the book that's in the glove compartment, but I'm sure you all will be more help.
Thanks in advance,
Judy

Not sure but try cleaning the contacts on the hinge side of the door. Sometimes these can get dirty and impede the circuit.

Most often, I think, the little motors go bad and have to be replaced

On the drivers door you have a window lock/unlock switch. This is so the driver can prevent the 3 windows being opened by others while driving. I would rock this switch back and forth several times in case a contact is dirty, then check for a fuse in that circuit. There is something wrong in that circuit that controls those 3 windows and it is a separate circuit from the drivers window. Maybe even the switch itself is bad. It is not the motors, you would never have 3 go bad at the same time. That circuit that controls through that switch has a problem.

We had a similiar problem on a Town & Country van. Some times windows etc worked, sometimes not. Usually worked when at the dealer. It was the computer connected to the ignition. Had the ignition assembly (on the steering column) reolaced and it works fine.

Still possibly a child lock; on my car the passenger windows wouldn't operate even from the driver's console if the child lock was on.

Thanks to everybody for your good suggestions!
I'll get out the book and see if I accidentally activated the child lock, then I'll check the fuse. I'm delaying going to the dealer, because I'm due for the (very expensive!) 90,000 mile service.

In my home we call that thrifty!

And Thank YOU mrbillmidlo for your advice about your successful fix with your Town and Country Van. We have had a series of them and each one had problems with the windows. I am sending this thread on to Sweetie. We have replaced motor after motor in the windows.

Thanks for all your replies!

There is nothing like a little help from your friends.

I am glad you started this thread. I really learned a lot.

One time I drove all the way from Chicago to Cincinnati in a snowstorm with the drivers window stuck half way open.

I think all of us are glad UU posted this thread. I never really bought into the idea that misery loves company. I wouldn't wish misery on anyone.

But knowing you're not the only one with moments...

Priceless!

Thanks, PT I needed that, and thanks to ALL of you for your willingness to help me with my window problem.
