Another man made paid holiday for government workers. Paid for by all other workers that will be at work today.

- Local/City offices in Florida may be closed but not likely

Another post mentioned a Disney employee earning time and a half for working today so some private employers treat the day as a holiday as well.

Note that there are 11 Federal holidays:

New Year's Day: January 1st.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Third Monday in January.
Washington's Birthday: Third Monday in February.
Memorial Day: Last Monday in May.
Juneteenth National Independence Day: June 19th.
Independence Day: July 4th.
Labor Day: First Monday in September.
Columbus Day: Second Monday in October.
Veterans Day: November 11th.
Thanksgiving Day: Fourth Thursday in November.
Christmas Day: December 25th.

There is no mail delivery on any of these days. Also, there is no Federal holiday called Presidents Day, a fact that the national media doesn't seem to understand.

You might miss some junk mail but the bills, the bills always come. We all eventually have to pay the bills.

Perhaps since less than 1% of the US population is a Federal employee and get the day off under the Federal name, the media is using the more common name for the state or local holiday.

Odd that the third Monday in February will never fall on February 22, Washington's actual birthday. It will also never fall on February 12, Lincoln's birthday. It's almost as if the date was intentionally chosen to be between the two as a way to honor both.

Default Weird Thread?

It seems to be like asking - "What do you think of the price of tea in China?"

Younger brother's 2nd wife was in the Navy and served in the support staff of one of the SEAL teams.

Most of our in house home aid people have some African American ancestry. We have been getting in home house care for 4.5 years. Met lots of interesting ladies. They have roots in many parts of Africa and the Caribbean.

My older brother's first wife is the daughter of one of the US Foreign Service officers from Brazil. She grew up there if memory serves.

In December of 1994 I flew from the Chicago area on the dime of North Carolina Central University for an interview for a law library reference position. Nice people. This is a primarily African American law school. They show up on my Facebook page on occasion.
Not sure the purpose for this post? There are no questions & you're not asking anything, you're just talking about family & race.*♂️

I would just point out that the national media often refers to Presidents Day as being a "Federal" holiday. This is just inaccurate reporting. Where it is a holiday, Presidents Day is a state or local holiday, not Federal. Presidents Day is not a state holiday in Florida.

There is no Federal holiday named Presidents' Day. If the Federal holiday is referred to that way then that is inaccurate.

- "The Federal holiday known as Presidents' Day" is inaccurate
- "Washington's birthday" on any day other than February 22 is inaccurate
- "The third Monday in February that the Federal govt observes as Washington's Birthday, some states observe as Presidents' Day, and others don't observe at all" is accurate but far too long for a name.
