That means many of our favorites places most likely will not survive.

Restaurants/retail will have a struggle but at least they know when they can open.

The Salons/barber shops/spa at this moment have no idea how long it will be before they can conduct any business.

All the funding that has been put forth to date has been to protect the employees paycheck.

What is the small business owner to do with zero revenue stream
for the foreseeable future?

Unless something changes many will not be around.

Stop and think for a minute if the only money you will have is what you got this month and there will be no more money coming to your house hold for the foreseeable future. And oh by the way the state will let you know when you "might" get your next check.....and to be more realistic further assume you have no more access during this undetermined period to your savings/pensions/etc.

Most people including the politicians have no idea what it takes for a small business to survive in the normal circumstance.
Let alone having the revenue stream abruptly shut down....with no end in sight.

The news last night showed interviews with some small business owners who either cannot open yet (hair salon), or who will be restricted to 25% capacity (restaurant), who talked of potential devastating loss and whose faces looked sick as their hopes of a more robust opening fell flat. I am sick for them. The opening of Florida is too restrictive and timid. So frustrating.

could not agree more. I would add that these businesses would work very hard to prevent any further spread of the virus because they are more customer service orientated and realize they need all their customers to be healthy as much as their customers need them.

I had a converstion with a Cal's employee. He said that many of the employees agree that they shouldn't open. Customers deal with only one stylist, the stylists deal with many clients. There is not a way to keep a distance and unless they test everyone when they walk in the door they are always at risk. Just another view from someone that works in that environment.

I wish that you could see what a virus looked like under a microscope. THIS virus is very contagious. VERY contagious. If contracted, the odds of dying from it if you are over 65 are very grim. I am not paranoid, but I would not go and have my hair cut now if they wore the full garb with the mask, gloves and plastic shield and sprayed the chair with bleach after each time. I very much worry about the person who always cuts my hair. She is loved by her family, she is a wit, and a hard working person who I very much admire, standing eight hours on her feet and putting up with some mighty challenging folks. This is a situation that none of us have ever dreamed of. This reality is ugly. There are NO easy answers. None. All caring people worry very much about small businesses.

Totally agree. There are people who want the country (and The Villages) shut down until there are no COVID cases. Then there are some who want us to open up the country...

The "Stay At Home" orders were all sold to the public as a means to "flatten the curve" and not overwhelm our hospitals. Remember that? Somehow, the politicians have morphed this into an impossible attempt to prevent further spread of the virus.

(Here's where I could provide quotes and links to articles citing numerous doctors and epidemiologists saying preventing the SPREAD, without a vaccine or herd immunity, is impossible.)

My thoughts exactly. Here in the Villages where almost every resident is in the high risk group and also where every resident has lived long enough to know that the results of this disaster will be horribly devastating to not only small business but big business and to every single person in this world. It will eventually cause hunger and death and poverty and it is NOT in any way an easily solvable problem. It involves not only immediate loss of income to small businesses but it will have a domino effect and the world will see within a year a devastation of enormous proportions to all people that is far more deadly than the virus.

I am not willing to risk my life. I know I may not live long enough to see the comfortable way of life that most of us have destroyed, but it will happen, no matter what we choose to do in the short term. Sometimes we are faced with unsolvable problems. UNSOLVABLE PROBLEMS. Heartbreaking problems.
