Default Recumbent Trikes

Have been thinking about getting a recumbent trike - 2 wheels in front and 1 in back. I've looked at the Terra Trike and the Catrike has one called the Villager. Does anyone have one of these or have any opinions on the brands?

Hey mfp. I am a 2 wheel road biker but really want one of these. Let me know if you get one and how it is.

I am leaning toward the Catrike Villager. It is $1600 and very light weight. Also, it is made right here in the USA in Winter Garden Florida. It is 9 speed which is all I need because I ride trails which are pretty flat. I already have a rack for my car for the trike - I got it online. It's a Hitchrider. Maybe in a few months I'll have the Catrike. You can try them out at The Villages Cycle shop in Plaza Grande or whatever it's called. I'll be selling my Sun EZ-3 if you know anyone who is interested.

Hi MFP509! I just saw your post on this subject and thought I'd chime in, even though by now you probably have your trike.

I just bought a trike myself about a month ago, and love it. Mine is an ICE Trice T in red. It's a tadpole design (2 wheels in the front). The T is a little higher than most tadpoles, which is partly why I was attracted to it. It's very comfortable and a total blast to ride.

Hope you're enjoying yours!

Yes, I bought the Catrike Trail and just love it. Am doing a charity bike ride in Inverness on July 18th - benefits the boys and girls clubs of Citrus county. These are fun to do. I think the web is www.citruscycling.org

Default Riding

Another recumbent rider here, though on two wheels. I've been bent about six years, on an Easy Racers EZ-1.

You'll probably hear about it when you go to the Inverness ride, but their big one over there is the first Sunday in October. I've done it several times. They get about 1,000 riders on the Withlacoochee Trail, but it works well because Inverness is not the end of the trail and riders going the longer distances are encouraged to start out north while the rest go south, and there is no mass start, but everyone leaves when they want between 7 and 9 a.m.

When I get down to The Villages (several times a year), I get around on my old bent; look for a fat guy with a beard (pretty much describes most
'benters) on a blue EZ-1; or I'll see you in Inverness.

I do the Clean Air ride in Inverness in October and March - that's fun. I've been looking at my FL bike trails book and picking out where I would like to go. I would love to go to Gasparilla Island - I think it is around Fort Meyers. I should check out how far it is from The Villages and get a group together and go.
Come to Inverness on July 18th for the ride. Look for me - yellow Catrike Trail and yellow helmet and little GPS mounted on the front.

I own a Catrike "Road" for 5 years now. When we bought a house in the Villages in '05, I knew I'd have a blast riding the multi-modal trails. The golfcarts are not much of a problem except for the gas exhaust I have to inhale. Most people are respectful and give me a wide berth. There are exceptions. Yes, they do pass me, but when I see an obese rider zip by to get to the Square to make "happy hour," I get the sense I'm better off getting all the exercise. p.s., I don't own a golfcart.
