Default And now,

Where were you?

I was at my sisters school for parent teacher conference. My mother didn't come out and we thought my sister must have REALLY messed up this time!

I vividly remember coming home from technical school and walking into my fathers place of business and he immediately told me what happened. My father was a great kidder so I said, "don't kid around like that". He replied that he was serious. I ran upstairs as our home was above the business and turned on the television.

I was saddened and disturbed this could be happening as he was being rushed to Parkland hospital. Shortly thereafter, he had passed away.

Several days later, we having Sunday dinner and our tenant burst into the room and informed us that Lee Harvey Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby.

I'm sure others will remember what they were doing when Kennedy was assassinated.

I don't think anyone will forget! Most of us didn't remember the date but when you ask what we were doing, we remember. It was a tragic time! Funny, even as a child, I felt vulnerable!

Default Bad Day....

I was in 5th grade and the loud speaker came on ....and told us the bad news. Our teacher began crying and then many us began to weep also. Bad Day.

I had finished classes......it was the beginning of Thanksgiving break. I remember waiting for my friends to finish their classes.....and almost walking around in a stupor.....not believing what terrible news I had just heard.

Two years later, I was fortunate enough to visit the Kennedy Compound and meet those adorable Kennedy children........and see Ethel & Eunice returning from a game of tennis.

Interesting that you would mention the children. I not only remember where I was when Mr. Kennedy was shot. I can remember where I was when I heard the news when they realized John Jr's plane had gone down.

The family has seen a lot of tragedy.

On that day our firstborn daughter who was nine months old took her first steps unassisted. My grandmother was there to see it, she was visiting from another state. It was at a new home we had just built.

And then we heard the news of John Kennedy's assassination. Something died inside of me that day.

It was as devastating as 911. I was young. Presidents didn't get killed.

I was in elementary school. I remember it vividly - the teachers had all the kids gather around the flagpole outside the school building for an impromptu memorial and prayer.

Our family was at one of my uncle's, watching the television, when they announced that Lee Harvey Oswald had been shot.

That was a sad time........

Unhappy

It was my 10th birthday. A very very very sad day for everyone. So much grief.
My family totally forgot about me and we all huddled around the tv. So every year since, we relive the awful event. He had given everyone so much hope for the future.

I was a freshman at Missouri University and had just walked in the cafeteria when the news spread through the crowd. I immediately ran to my room and turned on the radio. Left with a couple friends that afternoon to go home for holiday, one friend was in a class that was supposed to have a big exam - the teacher came in and announced the president had been shot, there would be no exam, everyone go home and pray.
