I need new hearing aids. In Ohio,I had used an audiologist that I knew well. That didn't keep her from charging me the going rate for hearing aids, i.e. small amplifiers that are made to fit in your ear that cost about six thousand dollars for a pair. I feel that all hearing aid businesses are out to gouge us. It to me is like seeking quasi medical help from slick eddie the used car salesman. Anyone here have someone you think is an ethical person?

If you have not purchased hearing aids, it is not similar to buying glasses where you know immediately if you can see better. Having a hearing loss corrected is much more challenging and you don't know immediately when you put your new "hearers" in if they are going to be as effective as they should be in all situations.

It is a crapshoot again, that I am dreading. I have one six thousand dollar pair of "losers" in the drawer.

i used dr. waldo at the villages care center for my first ever hearing aides. medicare paid for the weekly adjustment visits. and i paid out of pocket for the aides(1800.00) i have an "economy) pair that can be upgraded down the road if my needs change. dr. waldo and her assistant penny were very supportive as i learned how to use these tiny new devices.

I went on line and found the price I could for the aids that I wanted. then I went to my local audiologist and asked him if I bought on line would he adjust and fit them to my ears. he said he would but he also said that he would match the on line price!! that's when I learned that hearing aids are not a fixed price.

Gracie, I have worn hearing aids for 6 years I wear them about 15 hrs a day and have purchased new ones twice....it does take a while to get the proper settings for different enviroments and activities that you do. The hearing aids I'm wearing now took about 20 visits of tweaking before I was totally happy with my hearing....a lot depends how much hearing loss you have....mine was severe loss so I need a strong amplification....with my new HA"s I also am able to stream off my TV and I phone which helps greatly in comprehension....If you want more info. I tried three brand names hearing aids from a highly recommended audiologist and returned each pair for full money back.

A doctor belonging to one of the clubs we do, recommended Sam's Club. I could not be happier!! They have a different type of technology than others and it worked for me. No frequent returns for tweaking, just right the first time.

If you are a new hearing aid user it's a good bet that you can use the low cost aids that you can get at Costco or the Villages Health System.
People with profound hearing loss need all the features that the high end high cost aids have. If you don't need noise canceling, directional microphones, bluetooth communication etc the Villages Health System would be a good choice. I think my wife paid $100 each for the two she got from Villages Health. They are better than the aids that she was fitted with in Massachusetts but not as good as the hearing aids that she received from Paige Holt.
