Default Sky Show Tonight

SPECTACULAR CONJUNCTION:
When the sun goes down tonight, step outside and look southwest. You'll see something very pretty: Venus and Jupiter beaming together through the twilight. For the directionally challenged, turn around from the direction you saw the shuttle launch and look a little toward your left.

The two closely-spaced planets are about to be joined by the slender crescent Moon for a spectacular three-way conjunction that arguably ranks as the best sky show of 2008. You should be able to see Jupiter, Venus, and the crescent Moon together on Monday evening.
Let's hope it's not cloudy.

UUJudy....these two planets have been out for about a week as we have been watching them....you are RIGHT....it is amazing!

While it was a little cloudy in TV's area tonight, as we left Orlando around 6:30 it was spectacular!! We saw the crescent moon just south-east of the two planets!!

I will try to get pictures on Monday as they move closer to the moon!!

Thanks for the reminder....is there an article that speaks to this....I thought I saw it somewhere....

Amity and I are in Tucson, Arizona and we could see the planets last night in a brilliantly clear sky. It was most interesting.

Are you kidding me? It is breath-taking!

Talk Host sounds like Spock: Very interesting, Captain, that the universe has formed into what you consider a wondrous sight, but it is all quite explainable.

Too funny Tony.
Your comment begs the question...Did the three of you meet at a Trekky Convention?

Live long and prosper. (I'm making the hand signal, you just can't see me).

Sorry, this is a hijack, blame Tony, he's in charge!!

Tonight's the big night for this conjunction, which will not happen again until something like 2052.

Go out tonight just after dark and look southwest. The whole thing will be over by about 7:15 p.m. because the three of them will set then.

Here's an early picture from Australia sent to all astronomers a few minutes ago.

Thumbs up

I've been watching for a couple of nights. It really is a lovely sight. Kind of iffy for us in TV tonight...clouds and maybe showers predicted. So thanks Tony for the pic.

I expect that in my sky tonight up north here will be a blizzard. Maybe it will clear for a couple minutes. Uh huh.

It was fantastic in Colorado...the moon had just a few thin clouds which served to highlight the moon with reflected light.

As it got darker it only got better.
