lovely morning around 8am and Kathie is in her front yard doing some weeding. Having a grand ole time and suddenly out from under a large bush,,,, slithers a 12" brown snake with a beige stripe down its back. The screams were heard up at Havana CC but not ONE neighbor came out to see if I was being killed....... Never again.

Guess who was here this morning with a team of guys to weed.... My friendly weeder, Steve. He's a good guy who I found through the Daily Sun. Well worth the $$... No more weeding for this woman!!! Live and Learn... ewwwwwwww.

I don't know much about snakes, but in California I have seen rattlesnakes. Are any of the snakes that are hanging out in TV poisonous? If not, do they have fangs and do the bite? Maybe all snakes have fangs - huh... I guess I'll have to do a little research - like I said, I don't know anything about the little guys. I don't want to be afraid of something that can't and/or won't hurt me.

They don't like us either. (They probably thing we're gross.) I've read that if you don't bother them, they won't bother you.

Yes, the good advice is treat them all as if they were poisonous. If you avoid them, walk around them they will go their way.

In many states they are a protected species poisonous included.
Unless you happen upon them as in weeding the yard or step directly on them they will defend themselves. Most will make a quicker exit you can.

Leaving the Silver Lake Rec center last week, my lovely shorter half alerted me to the presence of a small snake slithering across the sidewalk in front of me with the following dialogue; SHREEEEEK!! YaaaaH! ABABABABABA! hamanahamana! SNAAAKE! To silver lake.... sorry 'bout the cracked glass in the windows. The doctor also assured me my hearing should be back to normal by the time we get the truck down with our stuff next month. Now if I could just peel her off the top of my head.

You should be very concerned about the rattlesnake - pygmy, copperhead, coral snake and the cottonmouth moccasin. These do live in Florida. Here is a link to the venomous snakes in Florida.

Many of the snakes around here are non-poisonous - corn snake, black racer, garter snake, etc.

Personally I try to not get close enough to them to try and see if they are poisonous or not.

Do read up on the various snakes in Florida so you know what you are seeing.

Looking for a $1 golf ball in tall grass or near the water can cost a lot more than that $1. Need I also mention alligators and those leatherback snapping turtles?

Today, I saw two different families on my street pack up their belongings and move out. Is this just a coincidence?

I don't know from personal experience, but I have heard that most non-poisonous snakes do have teeth and will bite if provoked. That can also lead to some nasty infections.
