My answer to several comments here: In my opinion it's entertainment to some and another segment of the "dumbing down of America" to others. There have been, and are, many great African American singers and groups of singers that provide wonderful American entertainment. What in the World has Happened?

I could not disagree more. IMHO, it was not pure genius. I had the good fortune of touring with a RRHoF band for decades. We cross paths with countless rockstars. I got to know a lot of them on a personal level. Some became friends. They were pure genius. They spent years and years perfecting their craft. Their musical contributions were genius. I did not see that same quality in the half time show. Of course some people would accuse me of being old and out of touch. I blow that narrative up because I am a fan of artists from Metallica to The Beatles to Lionel Ritchie to Robert Cray to Joe Satriani to Patti LaBelle to Van Halen...blah blah blah. I even like Frankie Yankovic. I wont deny that rap is an artform, but it does not fit the conditions that I know to be music. If I wanted the spoken word, I'd go back and listen to Maynard G. Krebs or Frank Zappa. At least I could understand them.

And one last thing...accomplished vocalist know how to use a microphone, for dynamics. It is called the proximity effect. Go youtube Paul Rogers of Bad Company for a primer on it. There was no evidence of understand that concept from the halftime performers.

Hmmm…I didn’t get that at all. Quite a stretch. Utter waste of time.

That halftime show was so great. I turned to Jeanie and asked her to get his name. I want to get his album.

You all sound like our parents when that dreaded rock and roll hit the scene. All those gyrating hips, were the devil's work. LOL

Fact is young people love hip hop and rap, and they pick talent for the masses.

He did not seem to be aiming at Villagers with all this. Not sure why so many Talk of the Villages posters are upset.

Terrible halftime show. YUCK. The game was bad enough.

Upset because the world isn't catering to them - I believe the appropriate word is "entitled."

The halftime show is not geared for the crowd who will watch the game and then complain about the music. The halftime show is aimed for the crowd who might not otherwise tune in to the superbowl but did this time in order to see the performer.

I'm not familiar with the genre or the artist but what I hear from those who are is that was a great show. (now I need to go look for the analysis to learn what the message was)

Classic case of virtue signaling.

The show was garbage. Compare that with Michael Jackson, probably the greatest performer ever. Lots of great talent over the years in the hip hop and rap genre like MC Hammer

Now this group would have been so much better and it would have had the stadium rocking.

My wife is a big EAGLES fan so i rooted for them grudgingly.

We went to the parade yesterday at Magic Kingdom to see Jalen Hurst (MVP). The atmosphere was pretty neat to see. Lots of EAGLES energy. Lots of fun.

I think that Hurts kid is a welcome sight in today's sports world of me me me. Wish he were on my team!

I was pleased to see that Defense can Still WIN Championships!

I didn't pay much attention to the half time show, i heard it and it just wasn't my thing but figured tons of younger folks probably loved it... no biggie to me.

I don't tune in to watch the halftime show but i do look forward to some of the commercials although they were a bit of a letdown this year... nothing stood out except maybe the JEEP commercial with Harrison Ford.
