Something to think about....
WORTH SENDING AROUND, SINCE THEY ARE IN TROUBLE NOW.
GM, Ford, & Chrysler INTERESTING...maybe the country should consider bailing them out to some degree Nothing needs to be said... Ford, Chrysler and GM's contributions after 9/11 An interesting commentary...You might find this of interest: CNN Headline News did a short news listing regarding Ford and GM's contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in New York and Washington. The findings are as follows..... 1. Ford - $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER response team services and office space to displaced government employees. 2. GM - $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number and a fleet of Vans, SUV's, and Trucks. 3. Daimler Chrysler - $10 million to support of the children and victims of the Sept. 11 attack. 4. Harley Davidson motorcycles - $1 million and 30 new motorcycles to the New York Police Dept. 5. Volkswagen - Employees and management created a Sept 11 Foundation, funded initial with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and victims of the WTC. 6. Hyundai - $300,000 to the American Red Cross. 7. Audi - see VW 8. BMW - Nothing. 9. Daewoo - Nothing. 10.. Fiat - Nothing. 11. Honda - Nothing despite boasting of second best sales month ever in August 2001 12. Isuzu - Nothing. 13. Mitsubishi - Nothing. 14. Nissan - Nothing. 15. Porsche - Nothing. Press release with condolences via the Porsche website. 16. Subaru - Nothing. 17. Suzuki - Nothing. 18. Toyota - Nothing despite claims of high sales in July and August 2001. Condolences posted on the website . Whenever the time may be for you to purchase a new vehicle, keep this information in mind. You might want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an American-owned and / or American based company. Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States ... It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis. I believe we should not forget things like this. Say thank you in a way that gets their attention.. ++++ Pass it on, I just did. ++++

At the risk of starting some kind of war, the lines between who owns what seem to be a little blurry. There are so many "arrangements" between automakers that it's hard to tell who's who. For instance, many Honda's are made in America, many GM's in either Canada or Mexico. Take a look at the Pontiac Vibe - it's really a Toyota Matrix. Back few years ago, my brother-in-law was so proud he bought American, a Pontiac LeMans - the one that was actually produced by Mitsubishi.
I can't argue who donated what to the Sept 11 victims, I have no idea. But I think with today's global markets it is a little simplistic to define a product solely by some historic geographic association. In 2001, wasn't Chrysler actually a German company anyway? I believe in the American capitalist system. People are free to buy what they want, and demand drives the success of a company. The last manuafacturer of buggy whips must have felt pretty bad when his business went under. But his product didn't compete. People should buy what they think is the best car they can get for their money, regardless of where it was designed or manufactured. That alone will force companies to either create reliable, affordable cars, or go under. And that to me is the answer. I don't want to be broken down on the road somewhere in a car that has a brand I bought because I was loyal to a manufacturer. I don't like to see people lose their jobs, and I thought it was awful a few years back when Ford closed a plant in Edison NJ and shifted assembly elsewhere. How many of these jobs went to Canada or Mexico? So I thnk you should do your research, and buy smart. The laws of supply and demand will eventually work. Sorry for the ramble..... |

Are we talking about contributions after 2001? Aren't we about 8 years too late? I think all the damage is done.
Maybe I don't understand this but it seems like were closing the gate after the horses escaped? If I'm wrong..I am sorry as I do not want to offend anybody. |
