I got a call today from a guy who told me that he was calling from the Social Security office and that they were sending me a new Medicare card. He recited to me my name, address, and date of birth. He also gave me a new Medicare number to write down. He said that my current Medicare card would no longer work after this Sunday, 6 days from today. Then, he asked me to get my current Medicare card and to verify my current number. I asked him a number of questions and he got very frustrated with me because I wouldn't give him the number. Then, he told me that I was not cooperating, and that he was going to charge me $1,000, and that my Medicare account would be cancelled on Sunday. I asked him if they could bill me for the $1,000, and he said that he would. The call lasted about 20 minutes, but it was fun. I am easily entertained.

It is tragic how many people fall for those things. Scammers know how to tap into the amygdala if given a chance.

(Might have been extra fun to start giving him a made up number with as many digits as it took to make him hang up on you. I wonder how many digits it would take — maybe adding in a little, “Is that a 5 or a 3? Let me get my glasses.) But your creativity strung him along longer than that would have taken — so good job.)

Anyway, ya dun good — scamming a scammer.

Someone on here suggested if dealing with a female ask what they are wearing today. Hope the right opportunity comes along as they deserve what they get.

I haven't had the time to kill lately with these scammers, but when I'm on a longer drive (like to Tampa or Orlando), using my SYNC (not safe to hold the phone in my hand, like I see most of the clowns talking and driving), I like to mess with them.
They work together to fish for information and put it in their scamming database (when they send email is called phishing).
That is why they have a lot of information on us...
When they are looking for additional information (in this case the medicare ID); many times a credit card number - I drag out the conversation. "Can you give me a minute to go find my card?" Then I mute my phone and go on with my drive. After or 3 minutes - Are you there?
Me: yes
Scammer: can you give me the number.
Me: I still am looking for the card, give me another minute..
I repeat this loop a few times, then I finally tell them to check with their mother or wife as I may have dropped the card while I was with them...
Then they start cussing at me.
I push a number button so they get a loud tone in their ear.
That is all.

Always suspect anyone calling you. They are just a voice on phone and cannot properly identify themselves.
