I know , as many as these threads often do, they go off of OP original questions(s). I’ve done it myself. To review, I know of not one state in the union, where an individual can enter a premises, not their own and make themselves at home. No ambiguity there...that is a home invasion. Worse if they do so and an owner is home. Now if you rent a room, your whole home etc for an agreed upon duration and that individual refuses to vacate....now we’re in true squatter territory. Two very separate and distinct situations with vastly different (potential) outcomes. You are correct that every state handles it in a different way.

Easy money for the scammer, but a huge problem for the tenant and the owner.
This....I totally agree with. Unfortunately two victims (owner, unsuspecting tenant). This is where the waters get murky, the bureaucracy kicks in and reconciliation appears lost.

The sad reality is that as localities refuse to enforce property rights, prospective buyers will look elsewhere knowing that their purchase is not safe. Same with crime and same with business regulation. Kevin O'Leary thinks NY state is essentially unsafe to do business in anymore in light of some recent court rulings. I don't disagree.

Maybe when these insane localities have no businesses and no residents, which translates to no tax base, they will change their tune. I'm not holding my breath.

I don’t know anywhere in the world where it is legal to break into someone’s home… but here in the US maybe in different jurisdictions. Goes against nature though. Can you take a bone away from a dog? It reacts naturally, so in some cases, do people.

Historically there were always differences in wealth among individuals. The poor traditionally want what the wealthy have. Communism tried to distribute things equally, the idea was great. Have you ever read Marx’s Manifesto?

Communist redistribution of wealth: the “government” took your home, your farm, your business, your children (literally) and gave the things to the party members. If you weren’t a party member you were out of luck, maybe even arrested. I won’t tell you what they did in prison, but I can tell you, people did not come out alive. The children were housed for schooling and brought up to turn their parents in if the parents did not support the government. How do I know? My mother was a teacher under the system. My dad was a leader in the uprising against Communism and therefore, if we wanted him to live we had to leave the country.

I agree with the home invasion comment if the invasion is detected immediately. But, if the squatter lives in the house for several months, and the homeowner then calls the police, and the police are presented with a fake lease, the police have no way to verify the validity of the lease. This can happen when a vacant house is being sold by heirs of a deceased person. The heirs arrive from out-of-town to sell the house, but they find that someone has been living in the house. In some states, the police are not allowed to force the squatter out and it is turned over to a civil court. Then, it can takes many months for the civil court to take any action. This is just one example of how the police cannot help you.

So if someone responds on a forum, especially to ridiculous commentary....they’re a ‘new name, old poster’?!

This doesn’t have anything to do with you getting eviscerated on YOUR thread attempting to marginalize the TV golf pros as do nothings....is it?! Yeah, that’s what I thought

Like I said earlier, this is an interactive forum and when I see something interesting or feel like certain commentary needs to challenged, I’m all in. I’m sure for some of you resident trolls on here, that may present a problem in your small circle.

It’s amazing how geriatrics comes back to pediatrics on here.

As far as numbers go, are you one of those guys that still has your SkeeBall arcade tickets all tucked away in a ziplock bag from the 50’s?!

Lighten up Francis!

I don't know why every state doesn't do this too. I know people who've been out of their house for MONTHS!! I just shake my head....
