Default Sumter County Amnesty Day - hazardous materials, unwanted electronics

Sumter County Public Works will host its next Amnesty Day Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, providing residents with a convenient, responsible way to dispose of household hazardous materials and unwanted electronics at no cost. The collection will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lake Okahumpka Park, located at 6085 E. State Road 44 in Wildwood.

Amnesty Day is funded through property taxes and is part of Sumter County's ongoing commitment to promoting responsible waste disposal and protecting the community's natural resources. By providing residents with a safe and accessible disposal option at no additional cost, the County encourages practices that help safeguard the environment and maintain a clean, healthy community.

Accepted items include:
• Automotive fluids and batteries
• Herbicides
• Propane tanks (up to 25 pounds)
• Cleaners
• Household electronics (TVs, VCRs, computers, etc.)
• Rechargeable household batteries
• Latex and oil-based paints
• Solvents
• Pool chemicals
• And other eligible household hazardous materials

Please DO NOT bring:
1. Biological/infectious waste
2. Explosives
3. Radioactive waste
4. Empty paint cans

Residents are encouraged to prepare materials for safe transportation by keeping products in their original, labeled containers whenever possible. Chemicals should never be mixed. Leaking containers should be placed in clear plastic bags and secured in a box for transport. Residents are also encouraged to keep boxes and other materials away from passengers by securing them in the trunk of their vehicle.
