Default tatunka , Buffalo gone....

Well it finally happened ,
Just how bright do you have to be to stick your hand inside the fence and have a Buffalo bite it............Well apparently three genius's have done just that and now they want money from THE VILLAGES,
Now of course the lawyers for THE VILLAGES have suggested that they move the beasts away from the public to prevent this from becoming a supplemental income proposition...

If there is not a club here yet called THE VILLAGE IDIOTS, Then I suggest we start one...First however we should teach them how to read as there are signs everywhere....

one ticked off Fumar

Don't you hate it when people do stupid things and then sue someone else for their stupidity? And win? And then rules are put in place to ensure no more stupid people do stupid things? This whole Buffalo thing is sooooo frustrating.

Let's hope these claims are dismissed and our Buffs are returned to us.

:realmad: I am still steaming over this whole situation. :edit: :edit:
It was suggested we launch a writing campaign to the editor of the newspaper. I am going to do just that. Maybe if enough of us protest, a solution for the return of the buffalo will evolve.

So write, call, do whatever you feel is right, and lets tell the Morse family we want our Buffalo back. Don't let the "village idiots " win this round.

The petition drive for another post office seemed to get noticed. Would that work here?
Deep down inside, I'd like to think that the Morse family does care about us and not just our dollars. Am I too naive?

Marianne, I think he is a businessman first but I also think he cares very much. He made TV what it is today. He has to be so proud of that accomplishment. His Grandfather may have started it, but he made it great. It is his baby and I think his pride in TV guides his choices.
Caveat...I did say he is a businessman first. You can't blame him for profiting from his vision.

I agree with all of you and Marianne, I agree with Sam, I think the Morse family does care about us and his baby (TV) but business is business and the idea of idiots creating these lawsuits is just absurd. If the Morse family lets them get away with this, what will be next? They must protect themselves, us and their investment.

Agree with Beady, lets launch a writing campaign and overwhelm them with our feelings about getting the buffalos back. Can anyone post the address or phone numbers and I'll be glad to join in on the campaign, as I'm sure most of you all will do too.

Kathie

I know this thought is going to run contrary to what a lot of folks are saying about the buffalo, but I only wish they were going further away.
It's my understanding that TV developers are using the buffalo as a combination tax-dodge and tourist attraction. I believe the tax dodge portion could be accomplished with cows or sheep, both of which are closer to being "domestic" than buffalo, and would accomplish their aim to duck some taxes.
While I agree the novelty of seeing buffalo in FL was quite neat, and I for one did enjoy seeing them, they were only there temporarily anyway, so you'd have to say good-bye one day eventually. Once the build out was complete, and the need for maintaining the agriculture tax shelter disappeared, they'd be gone. I doubt there'd be free space enough for them once the building is through, or anyone left willing to maintain them.
If you've ever been to Yellowstone, and seen herds of these animals roaming wild by the hundreds, you appreciate where these creatures belong. These are not timid creatures accustomed to living on a farm. In Yellowstone, people (stupid people) pose standing with them all the time, and every year, someone (or 2 or more) get gored. The animals get annoyed, and fling you by their horns over their backs. They are wild animals and should be in the wild.
So in many ways I am sorry to see them go, as they are a novelty and neat to look at, but overall, for the animal's sakes, it's probably better they be somewhat isolated from people, particularly stupid people, and given as large a pasture as can be found.
If only they could go to Wyoming...

There is a club called The Village Idiots. Sorry, but you need another name. :dontknow:
I still think the Buffalo should stay!!I love the Buffalo!!
Instead build a second (cheap to build)electric fence like we had on our farm. Plus, I am sure that lawsuits will fail if people violated signs.
People are hurt all the time by Buffalo in Yellowstone(again because people are stupid and don't follow rules) and no one has ever tried to fence or move the Buffalo. When we stayed at the Inn in Yellowstone the Buffalo slept with their bodies up againt the doors and in the restrooms. In upstate NY there are a couple Buffalo farms and they have visitors all the time and no incidents reported yet.
I agree with the letter writing campaign and any other way we can keep the Buffalo.

Agree with this part in that it maintains undeveloped land as ag. land at a lower assessed value. Eventually at build out buff will be moved to another pasture. I too was amazed at the "idiots" (for sake of a better word) that would extend hands and arms through slatted fences to feed a carrot to an animal weighing in near 1000 lbs. Simply moving their head up or down will injure your arm if in between the slats and above or below its head/neck. Learned this early on when sorting cattle in pens and loading chutes.
Also have seen bulls go through "electric fences" when the scent of a cow in heat was picked up.

Chuckster,
I know what you are saying is true but The Villages keep no breeding animals in public viewing areas. There are no bulls. They say at a certain age the swap them out with a Buffalo ranch. :dontknow:
The electric fence would be a second fence inside the wooden fences. I was talking to a man when I first got here who tends the Buffalo and he said they have never had one get through even the wooden fences.

You can start an online petition for "Save Our Buffalo" or whatever you would like to call it. Here is an example of an online petition. http://www.petitiononline.com/SOBA/petition.html

You can use this web-site to create an online petition-- http://www.petitiononline.com/

They have a petition with 278464 signatures to request Dr. Uwe Boll to stop making feature films. Thought that was very amusing. Some of Boll's movies are really bad but an online petition and one with close to the most signatures? Or, at least, it looks like it is one of the most active petitions on this petition site?
