Default Virgin Hot Spot

I just wanted to post this bit of information that might not be exciting to those more tech savvy amongst us.

I am sitting as a passenger in our vehicle driving along Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania typing and reading TOTV on my laptop. We recently moved to PA and decided to try the Virgin Mobile, no contract, mobile broadband hot spot, MiFi. It is amazing. We just bought it last night and today's drive to Albany, NY, was my vehicle test. It certainly works. A little slow in the car, but hey, I love this.

The device is no bigger than a credit card. Has a battery that last four hours when charged. It's range is suppose to be 30 to 40 feet and can connect upto five devices. We have our laptops and our Nintendo Wii connected at home.

The device was $149 at Best Buy and the monthly charge is $40 through Virgin Mobile, which is owned by Sprint Nextel.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about a night spot in TV.

Virgins have hot spots? I wish somebody had told me that 35 years ago!

Congratulations BK .... You sure know how to grab attention with an exciting thread heading.

Graciegirl says that the longer we stay in The Villages the younger you get. I thought perhaps you'd discovered a way to make us all virgins again. (That was the embarassment smilie).

Cool

Geez.... must be getting old. BK: I knew exactly what your post was about from the thread title... I guess there's a little too much geek in me!

We got the VirginMobleUSA MiFi, when in the Villages, in September. Worked great in St. Charles and everywhere we went in the Villages. The best part is the no contract and the Sprint/Nextel network. VirginMobileUSA is probably the only provider offering UNLIMITED mobile broadband for $50 per month.
We used it with 3 devices connected most of the time...iPad, iPhone and MacBook. We were able to watch streaming video (Hulu), which is a pretty good test of broadband connections.

Highly recommend this for anyone wanting broadband on the go....

Another case of "I should have waited"

We are stuck with a Sprint contract for 24 months @ $59/Mo - but did get the device for free.

(first time VCR cameras were out we bought one for $1500 - five years later they were $250)

Chuck... It's the price we pay as "Early Adopters"... Unfortunately, goes with the territory to be the first kid on the block with the latest toy!
