You think that is expensive? It’s .60 per pound. Most fruit are $1 each.

Have you ever had a “Yellow” one? Bought this at the Brownwood Farmers Market. It’s this color due to the lack of Lycopene in the soil.

It was not the best.

As we age, we loose our taste buds, so maybe it me .

Go back and read what they are replying to. They are talking about $4.49 for 7.4 Oz.

"Yellow" melons are ripe in VA. now. They are local and taste great.

Brown and Brown produce farm grows their own, and they are delicious! Suggest you take a trip up 301 near Oxford Downs. A lot closer than Virginia…😉

They look all sweet and beautiful. But are NOT watermelon. I forgot the name, persimmons or something close to that.
They are white flesh. Good for making jelly I hear. But not raw eating.
I’m from Missouri all American persimmons there grow on trees? And usually orangish when ripe?

“ persimmons grow on trees. These deciduous trees—primarily the native American persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) and the Asian/Japanese persimmon (Diospyros kaki)—can grow anywhere from 15 to 60 feet tall, depending on the variety and climate.”

Usually 10 pounds will yield about 8 pounds of fruit if not overripe. This is the second watermelon from Sam’s that wasn’t edible but still usable for juice.

Little surprised (maybe not) above posters don’t know what to do with overripe watermelon or basically any overripe melon
Skipped the course in overripe melons.

Default When I was young

When I was young, many, many years ago, my dad would not buy a watermelon until July because that’s when the prices went down a bit. A chilled watermelon was three cents per pound and an un chilled was two cents a pound. Of course that was back in the old days when they all had seeds😁

You are either the melon whisper…or throw away pounds of fruit. My granddaddy taught me not smell, but the bloom end and color of ground circle. We had acres of fruit trees and fruit fields.

I do find fruit in Florida rarely grows in FL. Sam’s isn’t my choice, needed juice for sorbet. Sometimes fruit that looks ruined can make the sweetest dessert, or jam.

Default Melons

Has anyone seen the watermelons growing on the bank where new construction is happening around Eastport lake? It’s pretty comical. Wonder if the construction workers eat it at lunch time & leave the seeds behind.

Must have weighed about 10lb, but I wouldn't know exactly as, of course, Mrs Fox carried it back to the cart while I manfully handled the two bags of chips
Any tips out there on how to pick a "good one"
TIA

There were several melon farms in the area pre Villages. We had patches still popping up during construction of golf courses at Cane Garden.

You want to pick a heavy one with a large, yellow spot where it sat on the ground.
