Default Parties, get togethers, and fun times in The Villages Florida

Coney Island Babe asked about a block party in another thread and I was surprised. Then I realized that not everyone socializes the same way in different parts of the country. We have occupied our home in TV for 19 days and I have already gathered some new friends for a very informal coffee where I served coffee cake from Publix and asked them to bring some extra cups.

We enjoy having folks over and I like to cook so we have done a LOT of entertaining in our life. I have found that many people are a little shy to invite groups over.

What do you hope or expect to do when you get here?

What is your favorite form of gathering people for fun?

What has been your experience in group socializing in your village?

We have 4 couples who go out to eat once a week, rotate homes to play cards and serve dessert. We could have many more join us but it is too hard to get seated at restaurants in the winter. This is only one way we play.

Our Village is extremely social. We have monthly socials, coffees and numerous other get togethers. We have various inner-Village "clubs" for cards, mahjong, pickleball, softball, golf scrambles and the list goes on. If someone in our village becomes ill, the support from neighbors is simply amazing. My neighbors are talented, loving, caring, kind, fun and have so many other wonderful qualities. We cook for one another often. It's like having a big extended family. You can partake of all the village has to offer or hide out with the computer on nights when you are worn out from to much play. What a life!!

Gracie, Heavenly Hadley (or Sadietown) is so new, we can so whatever we want. I'm sure we're gonna set up a lot of regular get-togethers, pot lucks, etc. Remember, I've never been invited to pot-lucks so I'm counting on you to teach me how to do it.

Our village has many socials, most of which I don't attend because I'm out having fun with other friends. I find that for me, The Villages has become one huge community. I have many friends from various villages, not just my own. Consequently, I have dear friends sprinkled throughout The Villages as a whole.

I grew up in a very social household. My mom and dad had an open door policy, so all the neighbors were always coming and going. It was an extremely fun-loving environment. I tend to be the same. I love entertaining people. Make yourself at home at our house. Want a beer or soda? Well, you know where everything is, no need to ask. I don't really play "hostess" as much as my hubby and I are part of the group and it just happens that we live there! LOL ;D

We are very casual people. Our home is your home. There is so much to to in The Villages and some many wonderful people, I don't know how anyone can feel alone or left out. I would say to newbies "Jump in, the water's fine!" Join the clubs. If you hear of a game or activity some are taking part in, join right in. No one seems to mind. Don't be shy.

I have a friend that often teases me, we met in the second grade. She remembers jumping rope with other girls and I asked from the sidelines, "Hey, that looks like fun, can I play?" She and I became best friends and are still extremely close, though miles separate us.

So, just step up as say "Hey, that looks like fun. Can I play?" Before you know it you're calendar will be so full you won't know what to do! Enjoy!

Chels is a wonderful hostess in addition to being a warm, loving person. I too ,do many things with people outside my village. I have made so many dear friends here. Dear friends are friends of the heart...not just normal friends.

I am afraid that Tom and I don't do much socializing...sigh...we are both so shy and quiet. Hopefully that will change in The Villages. We have met a couple people, maybe they will want to do something with us once in a while.

Ok Susan. How far was your tongue in your cheek on that one??? 1rnfl 1rnfl You and Tom are the original party animals!!! I'm saving that bottle of wine you left here to celebrate your return to TV. If someone opens it by accident, I'll get another. Celebrate we will.

Should anyone doubt Susan's claim of being quiet and shy, they would be right. Simply go to the Freeze videos and watch her in Johnny Rockets...orchestrating the whole thing. The girl is not shy. She led some of us on a crab crawl..in search of the best crab cakes. The equally ever shy Brightspot was in on that one as well. Do not be fooled by the sad Eeyore picture you see. Pull back the curtain!!! Remember her recent avatar... sassily sashaying away in a red dress??? That my friends, is the real Susan. If she's around you better hold on. Laughter abounds in her presence.

Sammie you are blowing my cover. ;D

The Villages Florida

There are a lot of new people on the Forum now and I thought I would pull a Kathie and say I was shy, (talk about tongue in cheek...Kathie must have swallowed her tongue on that one.) Anyway I thought I would sort of ease on back in to posting, as this sweet, shy, quiet, mousey little thing.

No???

The Villages FloridaMy grandpuppy wants to know if susans pup is a relative? Dolce is a doberman wanna be, according to her T shirt. She is a min pin and the sweetest, calmest pup I've ever seen!! I am having a tough day as far as pets go. My 16 year old blind and deaf Bouvier, a beautiful black and tan cocker spaniel is very sick today. She has been sleeping more than usual the last couple of days, today she has had awful accidents and she is very weak and suddenly not eating or drinking. It breaks our hearts. I have been lying with her, trying to comfort her. These times in life are the toughest, it will be a long day today and I hope Dr. Valdez will see her tomorrow. I do not want her to suffer. Isn't she sweet?? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( The Villages Florida :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( PS, Sorry for going off topic. I needed to vent. I will catch up on topic another day.

Our village is very social with dine arounds, goyrmet groups, couples golf, men's golf, ladies golf, men's club, bowling, bridge and more....very typical of TV but very focused in our village.

Me, I try to measure out my participation and only go for special events and holidays, like next week is National Peanut Week. And sticking to my rule of ONLY drinking alone or with some one keeps me straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about the furry member of your family, Ronda, hope the resolution is the best that it can be.

My post is not of my pet. We don't have one right now, but will again if and when we slow down enough to be proper parents. Then we will have another Maltese puppy and / or cats.

Now back on topic (I just could not, not, acknowledge your sadness Ronda)

I hope our village will be fun. I don't see how it won't be, old or new, The Villages are full of fun loving teenagers in wrinkle-suits...or there is the padded version. Then there are the blondes and the more honest gray haired kids.

Then there are the clubs and activities and the Squares and the weather and the pools and golf courses, and the woodshop...you would have to be dead to not have fun in TV.

OMG!!! I have been away all weekend...I come home to catch up on TOTV and find Susan's post...obviously I never have met her because I felt so bad! I couldn't believe someone with a home here felt that way! I was about to write her back when I read Sam's posting....to think I was going to throw a party just for Susan and Tom to come meet everyone! HHmm....guess I won't need to do that now.
