Some probably didn't do much but show up at the wrong place at the wrong time, and some did what Sergeant Roy P. Benavidez did and more. But they gave the ultimate sacrifice, their life, so we could enjoy the freedom we have today. Many made it home safe and sound to enjoy those freedoms they fought to protect. Those who serve in all our service branches are my heroes.
Amen. And most of their glories do not make headlines.

Wonderful story, Pat. You should be proud, you've done a good job. Thanks for sharing.

ABSOLUTELY!!!

Those guys risked their lives to save others, and lost theirs that horrible day.

Firefighters, EMTs--they're all my heros!

A tall slender browned haired woman carrying a second younger child was slowly pushing through the water making her way to him. "You know he's fighting the bad guys buddy in the desert."

"And in the forest," he said moving closer to his mommy. I made my way to the steps in the shallow end to listen to this exchange. "No, just the desert. You remember don't you Tommy. He's fighting the bad guys to keep us safe like Superman."

Our eyes met and Tommy's mom smiled and said her husband, his daddy, was deployed. She said it was hard for her young son to understand that he's in Afghanistan. It is an everyday, many times a day conversation I have when I'm at my house near Ft. Bragg and Pope Air Force Base in NC.

"My daddy's a super hero," Tommy said grinning a gapped beaming smile at me.

With tears in my eyes, I smiled back and splashed his little chest with water. "I don't even know your daddy Tommy, but he's my super hero too."
BK, are you published? You write wonderfully.

PGB,

I can feel the pride in your words. You raised a wonderful son!

I get really tired of the fuss made over these young , beautiful movie stars, what have they really done to earn all this publicity? Its people like your son who deserve the true title "Hero".

There were many heroes that day that didn't wear a uniform.

Thanks Nonie, you never know what kind of a job you do raising your kids until these kind of things happen. We all have our issues but when push comes to shove I want my boys on my side!

Default My son the Firefighter says....

I saw his Facebook post on the 2 fallen Bridgeport Firefighters who died yesterday said " When everyone else runs out they run in . . . they are our Bravest!!! "...........good definition of HERO's!

A hero can also be an ordinay person doing an extraordinary thing.

Years ago two men parked their car at the bank door, got out leaving it running, put on ski masks and went into the bank. A maintenance man saw this and had the presence of mind to get in the car and drive it away!

IMHO, another kind of quick thinking hero.
