Default wii? we? oui?

Mr. Boomer and I were talking about buying a wii, but, in truth, we have no idea what we are talking about.

A discussion started on here somewhere awhile back. And yesterday when I was squinting at the "Daily Sun" recreation section online, I saw that somebody wants to start a club. So I thought maybe I could find some answers to my wii questions here on TOTV.

So here goes:

Can we count playing with a wii as exercise of any significant amount? - or hey, even semi-significant would be better than what we have been doing all winter.

And, does this thing hold any promise of helping to improve hand-eye coordination? (mine -Mr. B is coordinated.)

-or could we at least hope to collapse into a heap of laughter while trying to play?

So if anybody out there can help us with our decision on whether or not to buy a wii, we would truly appreciate the advice.

Thanks.

Boomer

Two thoughts from an experienced Wii parent:

My 20 year old works up a real sweat AND he is no better at Wii golf or bowling than in real life so yes hand/eye coordination will be developed.

I have played the Wii bowling and it is lots of fun (good laughs but it can get competitive). One basically moves the same way you would if you were really bowling, just not as strenously and you mash a button instead of release a heavy ball. You definitely can work up a sweat though.

The young folks in my office sometimes play the different games during lunch hour in the conference room and have a blast.

It's fun to do with groups of folks or just alone (practice when no one is watching, lol).

I am still trying out how to respond to these posts. ???
My husband and I purchased a WII over a year ago. It is guaranteed to give you a great deal of laughs. We often do bowling for dollars with beer rounds. It can get quite physical if you try the boxing or tennis. There are some Olympic games that will give you a real workout.
We play with our adult friends and also with our grandchildren. It is definitely worth the price.
I think you would enjoy it. As long as you make sure you keep the controller attached to your wrist and you don't throw it through your 60" Plasma TV.

Okay, I can see that my response has shown up on the site. My apologies for leaving a blank post.
Wanted to add that they also have games like "Big Brain Academy", Brain Age 1 and Brain Age 2 as well as Focus Factor. All are recommended to keep your brains sharp and help your eye hand coordination. They can be played alone or with groups. You will find a vast number of different types of games at the local stores.

Thank you to all. We are going to try to find one tomorrow.

DickY,
I checked the link. That looks like fun. Maybe an old baby boomer can make a comeback as a surfer girl.

Russ and VK,
You both used the word "sweat" in your posts. That's one of the words I was looking for.

And barbjim,
Boy do I know how you feel about trying to master those quotes for addressing posts. I still mess it up. The other day, I was writing a long and well thought out and, of course, totally brilliant piece of advice (Right. ) to someone and I had tried to just quote the part of her post that I was addressing. That infernal little "quote" mark at the bottom hid from me. I ended up writing the whole thing in the quote font. The more I fished for the "quote" mark to try to remove it, the worse it got. Finally, I just deleted the whole thing and went on with my life.

Your wii advice was quite an inspiration though. Now if I can just "sweat" enough to make up for the beer rounds.

Boomer

I have a wii and really enjoy it - I do get exercise when I play the sports especially the boxing. I get downright aggressive trying to knock the guy out! I bought a Tiger Woods golf game on eBay which is real nice. I would like to get Tomb Raider also - I had that on Playstation. I just bought an extra controller so now I can play with 2 people. I highly recommend it! Have Fun!

Good Morning Muncle,

I did not see this last night but when I discovered it this morning it started my day with a laugh. Thank you.

I just looked back at the original Nintendo wii fit ad and saw that it is exactly the same, sans voice-over. It just goes to show that a thousand words are worth far more than a picture.

For some reason, when I looked at the original wii fit thing yesterday, Beach Boys songs began to play in my head. I saw surfing. Not that this Ohio girl has ever surfed.

My imagination gets away from me sometimes.

But spring is here I think so I can get a little sunshine in my life. Of course, this morning's sign of spring was not a pleasant one. A poor bird who wanted to box slammed into the window and woke me up. Alas, he would have been so much better off with a wii.

The plan is to stick to the wii that has the golfing and bowling and boxing - oh my! We will probably only succeed in scaring our geriatric dog while we try to play.

So we will go to the store, and maybe even stop at IKEA on the way back. (I have also been wondering what that place is all about. But hey, I hear they have food.) And after such an exciting day, maybe we can go "wii, we, oui!" all the way home.

(I think I have managed to digress quite enough for one morning and now I will step away from the computer. Really. Really. I will.)

Oh, and thanks again for the heads up, Muncle.

Just a few minutes ago Diane Sawyer, fellow front-end baby boomer, was talking about the wii fit on Good Morning America. They have not shown the full segment yet. It will be this half hour probably so by the time you see this, it will be gone. -- but will probably be on the web site later.

So I thought, for the occasion and bc there has been other wii discussion here recently, I would bump this thread.

Actually the wii fit looks pretty lame from what I have seen so far. But I think that Diane and company are supposed to convince us otherwise.

If you are interested in the wii fit, be sure not to miss Muncle's link here in this thread to a You Tube parody of the commercial for it. The link is rolling-on-the-floor funny.

btw We never did get our wii -- the original kind.I got busy and forgot all about it until just now. But maybe soon.

Do they refer to the smaller version as a "wee wii" ?

I do believe this is exercise at it's best. If I bowl, the next day I ache all over.
