I retired from the Federal Government (DOD) civilian. I always worked in Foreign Military Sales and had the Saudi Arabia program for almost 20 years. I was fortunate to travel to Riyadh once and it was an experience of a lifetime. I mostly dealt with US officers or contractors, but at meetings in the USA I met numerous Saudis during my career and became close to several. Everything Red is saying is right on target. I must admit though I always found it amazing the civilians I met who worked in Saudi, Egypt, Kuwait, etc, for numerous years. Yes, the money would have been great, but I could never leave the USA for such a long period of time.

Had a similar offer only for Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. I asked if it was cold there. He said they were on the Russian border. I told him to call me back if he had something in Costa Rica.
It did give me pause to think about retirement. I don't think I could ever give up "owning" my time. The only things I need a watch for are tee times and doctor appointments. Personally, I can't think of a realistic amount of money that would tempt me out of retirement. |

Redwitch,
I agree with what you said. I've never been to Saudi Arabia, but I believe that there are good people everywhere and living in a country is the best way to discover that fact. I think that most people everywhere would just like to live a happy and peaceful life. It's the governments that have the problems in my opinion. I've traveled quite a bit, and we've always found people in other countries to be very kind and helpful. Jan

Cabo,
I know exactly what you mean. I have no desire to work - have no time to do that. :-) I have a girl friend who keeps working several days a week, and then complaining how tiring it is to do that. She doesn't need the money. I don't get it.

I own a set of the complete works of Washington Irving printed in 1832 and on volume 3 his first work is Life of Mahomed. If you read this book you will understand the basis of the muslin thoughts. We have learned to tolerate other peoples point of view, creed or lack of it. However Islam is intolerant to anything. No matter how well they disguise it. In the time of Mahomed people have only 3 choices: 1.- Embrace Islam as your faith, 2.- Pay tribute or 3.- Get killed. (Some choices). They are still in the 8th Century, look at the way they treat their women.

While I've decided not to pursue the offer, this has all been fascinating information and I appreciate your thoughts.
