A close "second" is the Honda CRV, which has excellent safety ratings and good mileage. And, the smaller version of that, the Honda Fit, is also good.
I have owned a Subaru Forester since 2003, (bought it when it was almost 2 years old). Fortunately I have never been in a accident with it, but all round it has been a good car. Lots of trunk room in the Forester as I used to put a wheelchair in the trunk area when taking another church member to church each week. My youngest sister who lives near Cincinnati has owned a Forester for about 3 years, and she also likes hers.

My other sister in Wisconsin will vote for the Honda CRV. Once a week, she uses her Honda CRV during her part job as a rural mail carrier, and the CRV gets a lot of stopping and going when she is working that day. She has been using her CRV for about 6 years at this job.

I owned an Izusu Rodeo for 12 years. A little bumpy because of the stiff suspension but overall a great car..Towed a boat many miles with it. Got rid of it cause wife complained of the rough ride. Got an Acura. BIG difference.
Two bad they don't make the Rodeo anymore. The Honda Pilot is the same car as the Rodeo. Highly recommended.

I fought getting a SUV because I personally like sport sedans.
My wife previously loved her 1999 and 2004 Lexus RS SUV.
Well this time I lost or thought I had.
We picked up a 2013 Lincoln MKX and I really like it.
It has blind spot monitors that flash in either side mirror to let you know if a car is there and rear monitors that do the same not just the backup camera.
Now if I could only justify the Porsche Cayenne like someone else mentioned....
Not promising she gets her way next time but this time it worked out for her.
Maybe its payback for not saying a word about the 14" rims on the Yamaha.

Toyota Highlander. Love, Love, Love this vehicle. Would not consider a car ever again! I like to sit up high so I can see the road better and space to haul stuff without having to ask someone to help me pick up stuff or pay for delivery. Will also have a tow package. It is so useful to be able to rent a trailer for bigger stuff. Highlanders have great rating and hold their resale value.
