One of the most conservative newspapers in America, "The Washington Times", is owned by a church.
The Washington Times is a newspaper owned by Reverend Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, through its company News World Communications. Some very interesting facts about Rev. Moon and his church. Unification Church and the Moonies - ReligionFacts |

Hope we are not going down that road of what group owns what...gee the back and forth on that will get old....to me, using the New York Times as an example........ I read the Times each day. It is known as a left leaning publication and it is on the editorial page and perhaps in the structure of its stories (context, etc) but they do cover a lot of news thus I read it each day. I assume that nobody leans on one single source as gospel on news...THAT would be a huge mistake. Read a number of newspapers, and other sources to gather the substance....so.... I ask again.....what is the significance of this factoid ? PS....there would be significance if they distort the news, but ALL newspapers have a bias ! |

Does the Times in Washington ? Did a bit of research after reading your initial post and quite the contrary to what you say, they are and have been VERY open about not only the relationship with Moon, but their conservative bend. They also have been praised for forcing the Washington Post away from being so openly liberal and bias in the covering of news stories. I dont think there is any doubt about the conservative leanings of the paper but we could list conservative and liberal papers and the list would be just about equally long. If you have specific information about the paper hiding its ownership, please post it as that is a pretty serious accusation you make. Seems this would be hard to do in the newspaper business. My research made it very very easy to determine that fact. I might add that the Washington Post has over the years become a much more conservative paper.....according to Wiki, they published 27 editorials supporting the invasion of Iraq so perhaps the Times intent has been met. |

Buggy does't like anyone reading or quoting a story or report printed in the Washington Times.
Coincidence that the Washington Times is one of the very few mainstream papers which is editorially conservative? If the Washington Times made kissy-face with Obama, Buggy would be one of it's biggest fans............you can bank on that. |

I actually like to read the Washington Times when I lived there. I would read the Washington Post and the Washington Times and see how each paper would treat a particular story.
The Post lost most of it's good staff several years ago when they offered buy-outs to the senior staff and writers to trim costs. The Post of today is not nearly as good as back about 10 years ago. The Times is very, very conservative in it's viewpoints to the point of not being enjoyable to me. However, to each their own. If others want to read it, so be it for them. Freedom of the press is a right enjoyed by all. |

Thats interesting. Who determined that it is one of the most respected newspapers in the country? I would really be interested in knowing how that conclusion was drawn.

It has always been common knowledge in the DC area that the Times belonged to Rev. Moon. They do not seem to have been effected by the Moonies and The Washington Times is an excellent paper. Much better than the OP.
There are few conservative papers in this country. The Times has a National Weekly edition for out of area people who want to read a good paper. |
