4- Quran's burned by mistake, we say we are sorry, the President makes an apology. They kill (6) US Soldiers. We do nothing, we bend over more. This is not the country of Ronald Reagan, we are a disgrace and I am ashamed to be an American.

These "holy books" were being used by Afghan insurgents in custody to communicate with each other for nefarious purposes which would put our personnel in grave danger. In violation of their own "holy law" they were writing messages to each other in these "holy books" The administration is handcuffing these soldiers. American military personnel should have been authorized to immediately respond to the situation with all the force they can muster. The decision to respond to situations on the ground should always be left to the discretion of the unit in harm's way. If this is not possible, then those troops should be retrieved, and not left to twist in the wind. |

Being in the military in combat or a law enforcement officer in this day and age has to be a real challenge for the front line individual.
Our enemies have come to know and understand that all one has to do is push back with a little political, religious or race effort and the powers that be will cave to their demands. The burning of the so called books, you know the sacred books they were transferring information to be able to kill Americans, at worst is nothing more than collateral damage. The linguine spined politicians and the media are the ally of those who would kill us and then complain when we swing back at them. The current methodology is returning the USA back to being a paper tiger. Yesterday's news on the subject displayed the brass already lining up to wash their hands in the matter by stating the troops misunderstood the mission. I cannot in my worst day ever thinking for one second that we ever misunderstood our orders from our command. It is BS and political and so current administration's business as usual. Disgusting!! btk |

[QUOTE=RichieLion;462025]Seriously Buggy; he could choose to live elsewhere. Now being upset at the administration's failure to act against aggression is unpatriotic?
QUOTE] Once again, Richie, you failed to comprehend what I posted. The part of the message I replied to was "They kill (6) US Soldiers. We do nothing, we bend over more. This is not the country of Ronald Reagan, we are a disgrace and I am ashamed to be an American." To that, I posted Originally Posted by buggyone They kill 6 US soldiers and we do nothing? ' If you are ashamed of being an American, you can always choose to live elsewhere. No one would stop you. This person says he is ashamed to be an American. I merely told him that no one would force him to live here if he chose to live elsewhere. I was not telling him to leave by any stretch of the imagination. I also asked what action the US forces should have taken in his opinion to the enemy killing 6 US soldiers. To answer you, no it is not unpatriotic to be upset at an administration's failure to act against aggression. It is wrong, in my opinion, to say you are ashamed to be an American - no matter who says it. |

Yes, you are absolutely right. The US should get out of Afghanistan right away. The Afghans do not like the US and never will - even though we have thrown literal tons of money at them. The US mission was accomplished, in my opinion, when bin Laden was killed. Time to leave is NOW.

when Obama agrees to continue to pay Karzai the billions of dollars they do now....but without troops there....they will all agree it is time for the pull out.
Karzai and his followers are all profiteering from the US involvement while speaking against the US actions out of the other side of his political mouth. An absolute shame we have the lives of our troops on the line there; I vote bring them home. Follow the money!!! btk |

i am really torn on this issue....while i read very sad posts about the women in Afghanistan praying that we stay and do not leave their fate to the taliban, i also agree that we should not be trying to nation build there...the expert on islam who spoke to us last monday said that the only thing the radicals understand is punishment and strength...when we cause destruction and then come in to repair everything, we are perceived as fools...if we are going to fight them, we must leave the people themselves to rebuild and think twice about going against us again...this sounds harsh to our christian sensibilities but i think one must understand the mentality of their enemy in order to affect change. we should not be giving billions to these countries. perhaps the brave missionaries who try to work in these countries often at risk to their lives, can accomplish more than our govt through human caring. this is one issue that i am very confused about....are you? maybe we could have a program to bring young girls here for education they cannot get there, and when they go back they can be instrumental in bringing their country into the 21st century...years ago when the russians were in that country, i had the occasion to meet a very well educated Afghan refugee and his daughter out in billings, mt of all places...they like all people were seeking a life of sanity and culture, safety and opportunity...they impressed me very much....i remember we had a wonderful conversation all in French, so they were obviously educated in europe. sharing ideas is more powerful than sharing money.

unfortunately when/if they go back the culture they are trying to do away with will be there as strong as it ever was. We are trying to change the culture/beliefs/traditions (like them or not) of a people who have been doing it that way for thousands of years.
Each and every one of the countries will take what it is that they like from the West...mostly money....smile and act as though they agree with what we are preaching and then return to their version of life and practices as they have known it for thousands of years. The only successes will come from within...just like women being able to drive a car in some Arabic areas...maybe some of them will, yes the ones that will show up in the media...those of the Arabic rich and famous. The every day people on the streets will not change as quickly. The only clout we have is the money and we have to borrow it to give to a people who in many cases have more than we do. Politics = business as usual = makes no sense for we the people (of any country). btk |

If we could keep an Underground Railroad out of Afghanistan and get our troops out of there, that would be the best of both worlds.
Afghanistan is a sinking ship. In maritime tradition we should rescue the women and children and let the Neanderthals die in parched sands. |
