Default Candidates for "Too Stupid To Propose Laws" award?

How about a list of stories that would demonstrate "prima facea" evidence that a legislator should lose his or her job?

Here's my candidate for today.

New York Assemblyman Felix Ortiz has proposed banning salt in the preparation of all foods in all restaurants in New York City. He says it's for "health reasons". Now, we all know that too much salt is bad for us. Of course Mr. Ortiz didn't seem to get the memo or do the research that enhancing flavor isn't all that salt does. It controls bacteria, slows yeast activity and strengthens dough by tightening gluten. It also inhibits the growth of microbes that spoil cheese.

Nor does he take into consideration people like my younger daughter who are told by a doctor that she needs MORE salt than average in her diet as she has low sodium.

In the "there oughta be a law" category - there oughta be a law that says if you introduce legislation that demonstrates you have a room-temperature IQ, you should at least be suspended for a first offense.

You are surprised at the nanny state's arrogance? Laws to ban guns, trans fat, sugar, smoking , soda, toy guns etc. etc. So what is another restriction to the list?

I am not surprised at your lack of focusing on the title subject. Please concentrate. There may be a quiz at the end. Thank-you.

My only surprise was that the guy was THAT stupid. But, then, as happened to me at work recently, when I think some people have reached bottom, they grab a shovel. I shouldn't be surprised any more since the infamous petition on "Di Hydrogen Monoxide".

I'm an optimist. So sue me.

Right on Cashman.

( I think it was a wistful witticism)
