Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
Tip O'Neill quoting Finley Dunne once said, "Politics ain't bean bag". It has never been more evident in the attacks on Sarah Palin by an ethically corrupt liberal media and sick, vicious lies perpetuated by the left, and panicking, misguided Obama team surrogates. I agree that both sides employ these tactics, but somehow the attacks on Palin and her family are beyond the pale of journalistic integrity, political strategy and human decency. Recent polls suggest the public at large recognizes the bias. Maybe Palin's courage and disdain for the liberal media in her acceptance speech and the public's awareness has had an unsolicited effect on the dynamic. I read this morning where MSNBC has fired Chris Matthew and Keith Oberman from their election anchor positions. They will remain as political commentators. David Gregory will replace them, and I suspect or perhaps hope, the coverage will be more on issues than biased, contrived personal attacks.
I discovered this site while trying to determine for myself what was true and what was politically driven smears of the worst kind. It debunks the lies, acknowledges some embarrassing truths and proceeds to back the facts with credible links. I found it interesting and hope you will as well. http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/separat...lin-fiction/2/ |

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
Cabo, all the ads on this site are right wing. I'm not sure the site is balanced. As I have said many times on this site, I have been a right winger all my life. Now I don't think I believe the right or the left. I am just disillusioned and cynical at this point. I question why McCain did not choose a more experienced woman to be his partner. Weren't they pretty enough?
I want substance over looks for this position. |

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
Sam, hope all is well in the neighborhood. I checked several sites without regard for what wing was dominant. I was looking for credible validation of facts and also considered that the Charles Martin piece was balanced to the extent he identified legitimate flaws in the candidate. He backed up his facts and conclusions better than anyone I researched. Not perfect...but believable.

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
If there were a "Thumbs Down" icon I'd put it up for this site. Completely right wing. I, too want substance over style. In my opinion, McCain has neither, and Palin has style, but no substance. Can any one tell me where she stands on any issues other than Pro-Life, which I don't agree with. What are her views on Foreign Policy? Oh, I forgot she lives NEAR Russia.

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
I am not sure I understand this.
You folks come on here and discuss things as if they were a fact (Gov Palin is not pregnant but covering for her daughter for ONE example) that start on EXTREME..not even moderatle...BUT EXTREME Liberal sites and you discuss it as fact...make fun of the Governor....including stating she would never be a role model....BUT YOU ACCEPT WHAT THE SITES LIKE KOS......KNOWN FAR AND WIDE AS extreme...EXTREME...and who has been called on things by both sides. And you debunk anything that you DONT WANT TO BELIEVE as right wing. WOW...open minds, huh ? |

I don't accept KOS information and others. I try very hard to put up sites that are balanced.

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
Samhass...I just realized that I may have inadvertently mislead both you and Chelsea about the Charles Martin piece. I posted a link that used the information from Martin's site in their blog. Martin's site is as neutral as you can get as he also debunks Obama rumors.
This is a direct link to his site and I hope you will be more charitable when you describe his work as "right wing". I believe he is as close to objective as can be. He is about debunking rumors from both the left and right. Chelsea, how about reconsidering that "thumbs down" on Martin? http://explorations.chasrmartin.com/ |

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
What I'm finding strange is that most of the truly ugly and negative rumors I've heard about Palin have been from (1) Republicans here debunking them, (2) Fox News debunking them and (3) my Republican friends having hissy fits that they exist. That's not saying they were weren't mentioned in other places, just that I hadn't heard them. I am, however, beginning to wonder if maybe it is a Republican plot to make the Dems look bad for bringing up these rumors while it is the Repubs in actuality who brought them up.
I had dinner last night with some serious liberals. Palin was discussed. The discussion centered around her proclivity to fire or attempt to fire those who weren't quite in her pocket and we felt this was a concern. Her daughter was mentioned and it was agreed that it was a shame this had ever been brought up. Both her and Obama's inexperience were discussed. The banning book issue was discussed and it was agreed that while she never actually mentioned specific books, there was concern that it would even be considered. |

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
SAMHASS.....I dont know what you base your information on,but from the moment she was announced the left wing blogs just blasted from everywhere and about anything and everything. If you think any of the nasty rumors discussed on the net AND HERE IN GREAT LENGTH were begun by right wing sites or followers...well...check it out....it has been a ful frontal assault !

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
Redwitch, regarding your articulated concern about her firing those who "were not in her pocket", I would call your attention to a fellow by the name of Charles Guiteau. Old Charlie was a disgruntled office seeker who felt he was owed an ambassadorship and assassinated President Garfield when he was dismissed. The system of "to the victor go the spoils" was more than he could bear. The assassination led to civil service reform and ultimately to the passing of the Pendleton Act that provided for the federal civil service. It was intended to discourage dismissed office holders and/or office seekers from revengeful actions.
However, policy makers elected to give high office holders some leeway if they were to be held accountable for delivering on their promises. The old saw about not being able to hold someone accountable unless you give them the authority to make changes. , was the basis for that decision. Hence, to this day, administrative appointments at the Federal, State and local levels are still the prerogative of that bailiwick's chief executive. Sarah Palin, whether as a newly elected Mayor or Governor had every right to make key administrative appointments and dismiss those that were not on her team. That's what the spoils system involves and Democrats as well as Republicans both subscribe to the system. I doubt your liberal friends would want Condoleesa Rice to continue as Secretary of State so it is a bit of a stretch if not disengenuous for you to be critical of Sarah Palin surrounding herself with people that support her agenda and dismissing those that oppose her. By the way, before you say or think it, I was not even a gleam in my father's eye when Garfield was assassinated in 1881. Come to think of it, my father wasn't even a gleam in my grandfather's eye in 1881. Regarding the banning of books, I do not know why that would be a concern to you and your liberal friends given the fact that no book titles were ever dicussed and books are routinely banned from public libraries as Tal has confirmed. One that comes to mind is, "Little Black Sambo". That would be a hoot of debate on this board as the book was about a boy from India, not the deep south as many believe. Sambo skillfully with quick wit and guile gets the best of four tigers who were going to eat him. How this became a banned book and if it should have is fodder for a roaring controversial debate. I digress, why would a question about banning a book be of concern to you, if in fact the banning of books in our libraries is a routine occurrence? Of course, I am sure you view that question with the most ominous scenario a liberal mind can conjure because the source is a conservative woman. Enjoyed the opportunity to exchange views with you. A few of my closest friends are liberals and so far our differences of political opinion have not eroded the friendships. |

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
Cabo, I love your avatar. I feel the eagle's pain. Recently I asked a highly educated European his perception of us as a nation. (I do this at every opportunity) The response involved "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire." How could this happen to us? Is this happening to us?
How can we keep our Republic away from the slippery slope of decline? Do the younger generations care as we cared? Are they as patriotic? Is his perception incorrect? |

Re: Charles Martin debunks the Sarah Palin rumor attack
It was a damp, rainy day at the Jersey shore and I had time to write a lengthy, detailed response to your post. When I attempted to post it....it mysteriously disappeared into that abyss where all things not saved go. I could never duplicate it and the :cop: topic patrol would have certainly deleted or moved it on two counts....thread hijacking and excessive keystrokes.
