Default Democrats Object to Government Transparency Probe

A letter signed by 3 Democrat Representatives was sent to Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, the new head of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, objecting to a probe of President Obama's promises to improve government transparency.

The Democrats say the probe will unduly burden the federal agencies who have to produce records under the Freedom of Information Act to journalists and citizens.

Rep. Issa wants details of all requests of the past 5 years, including letters and emails. He said the effort would make sure that "all federal agencies respond in a timely, substantive and non-discriminatory manner" to requests for records under the law.

The five-year window would include the last years of the Bush administration and the first years of Obama's administration.

Don't know what the Dems are concerned about. Transparency was one of the earliest pledges by the President. Maybe it's because of reports that names of people requesting information were sidetracked to top political advisors who wanted to investigate the people requesting the info.

This might get interesting.
