Default Free Golf Carts - really

I don't know whether to laugh or cry but I can't wait to see your responses to this one.

Give the Wall Street Journal article a few seconds to load.

A Villages dealer is cited in the WSJ article.

Default I don't need a new golf cart but with a program like this

I will get one for "almost" free then turn around and sell the one I have.
But can you imagine the pent up demand if this could be a reality. If the cash for clunkers went berserk the first week.....what would an almost free cart do to demand?????

And, if allowed to proceed just how much would the program contribute to the objective......by the way what was the objective anyway? Help foreign car makers sell their vehicles?

I am headed to TV golf car shop.

To date, has anyone bought a cart and been told they will receive a tax rebate?

In checking with IRS and Dept. of Energy websites, it appears a rebate between $2500-$7500 will be available for street-legal plug-in electric vehicles, if purchased after January 1, 2010. The size of the rebate supposedly relates to the battery power of the vehicle. Also, only the first 200,000 eligible vehicles sold by each manufacturer will qualify for the rebate.

If this is true, are the rebates advertised by dealers like the Villages Cart Man for carts sold and delivered after January 1? And, if so, a month from now what will the waiting list and delivery schedule look like at cart dealers everywhere?
