I believe part of the problem for too many people is that they have an opinion or attitude about guns in general. This is fine with me as we all have our opinions/likes/dislikes, etc.

However, in specific they also lump everybody who "carries" a gun in the same category. Which they are entitled to do, but is totally incorrect.

The people who elect to apply, go through the background checks, partake in the required classes and fire arms familiarization (as required by each state) are just not in that category.

I also know from my very many years of being involved with gun use, gun ownership and gun discussions...there is no way to change the negative attitudes towards guns held by a small percentage of people. The media and the government would have us all believe there are more who are against gun ownership...but history has proven that to be intended mis-information.

And of course the disgusting portrayal of guns and their use as well as violence and mayhem by the entertainment industry is totally and completely distorted, incorrect, biased....and tolerated.

I always wonder why this entertainment that puts in front of our very young and developing minds this most distorted and violent behavior....with nary a negative word from the masses. This is where the misuse of not only guns is TAUGHT, but every other form of violence that can be imagined is also TAUGHT......but never objected to.....but bring up a the subject of a properly trained, well intended group of people, like those with concealed weapons PERMITS and LICENSES and wow what a difference in ATTITUDE!!!!

Pretty inconsistent to me!!

I kind of resent your reference to the concealed carry movement. It is the Constitution of the United States of America movement.

A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.
Why do conservatives blame the victim? When this happened I was just driving down the street when I came upon a man abusing a dog. Anyone who knows me will tell you how I feel about dogs. On both my streets, TV and Colorado, I keep treats in my garage for dogs that walk by. My stopping to help that dog was NOT me looking for trouble.....As for me being angry thats only in your head not mine. I was shocked that someone pulled a gun but this incident a number of years ago. I have NO anger now. I just have an opinion that is different than yours and, in this country, I have the right to an opinion as you have the right to yours. It doesn't make me bad, or stupid or crazy or part of the problem....just on the other side of the issue.

The constitution really doesn't say you have the right to carry a concealed weapon...it says you have the right to bear arms. Am I right?

As a nation, outside the gun debate, violence against women is an issue we need to deal with. And as a women an issue I am passionate about.

Enough said.
Cologal, I have to respectfully disagree with you here.

Men are FAR less likely to report spousal abuse because of the stigma of "letting a woman beat you up". Last I read, only 4% of reported cases were men being abused but authorities suspected it was far worse.

You only hear about the celebrated cases where a certain piece of the anatomy gets cut off. Then it's followed by the "she must have been driven to it" stories and only a year or so later, when the court cases have run their course does the truth come out.

I know a bit about this because my ex-wife assaulted me on more than one occasion and threatened me (flashing a curved foot-long 3-inch wide blade at me once) - fortunately it wasn't often.. But it was often enough that I feared for my property when the divorce finally started to happen. I was very paranoid back then.

I would agree that it is MORE OFTEN men than women committing abuse, but the scales are not tipped as much as people think they are.

If you are interested in forming a Pistol Club please PM me with your email address. Once I get 6 or more folks interested I will email everyone and set up a meeting to see if there is enough interest in actually forming a club to do some shooting in the local area.

Thanks CMANN, those are interesting and informative, but I am sure that you will not change any anti-gun persons perception of firearms. After all gun, not people, are bad, dontcha know. LOL
